Left Khao San Rd and Bangkok on a plush overnight bus and travelled the 450km journey to Chumphon where we dozed on the beach at daybreak while we waited for the Ferry to Ko Tao. Salud was feeling really unwell these past few days but went downhill quickly overnight so after Big Blue Diving collected us from the pier I brought her to the local clinic. In minutes the staff had her in bed attached to a drip and the first dose of antibiotics administered. After a few hours with no sign of improv...

... could, backpacks wrapped around us. Asked a few places, but prices were too much. Continued down Chaweng's main road, which looked very strange at first sight... when we were approached by a man who looked as if he was either going to mug us or deal us drugs. He pointed to a hostel hidden behind some signs. It was 400 baht a night (about 8 quid), and the room was pretty big. Did seem strange as there was building work going on as we walked through. Think it must've been ...
Chaweng, Ko Samui, Thailand comedyad... which is part of the Library hotel - a funky modern design hotel that looks like Ikea on steriods. Add into that searching for a gym in Chaweng's red light district, a couple of trips to Starbucks and another great meal on the beach (lanterns, flags and private tented boothes while listening to the ocean....) it made for a perfect few days. Then it was time to move on and fly across to Krabi on the other coast of Thailand.
Chaweng, Thailand willandluce... manager of the new hotel, is a lovely guy! We sort of take over the bar. Hubby connects his laptop to the bar music installation. We meet Michela and Gabriele, a young Italian couple with whom we hang around for a day or two. We take a taxi together to Fishermen's village, between Chaweng and Bo phut. Where Gabriele has a HUGE lobster. And, yes, the food is nice but I still did not find my ideal place: it is all too fancy for me. Until, last night: for the name, I ...
Chaweng, Ko Samui, Thailand tonyandmarina... Koh Samet. The island is only 40 minutes away and is a popular tourist destination for both Thais and foreigners. We caught a ferry from Ban Phe on the mainland to the main pier on the island at Na Darn Pier. The pier is at the top of the northeast corner. Most of the beaches are then situated down the east coast. From the pier you can either catch a songtaew for about 10 baht to the nearest beach or walk. The walking ...
Koh Samet, Koh Samet, Thailand richardbarrow88... is the only word I can think of. They were obviously very hungry and were under the impression we were there to feed them! Some of the other tourists took paid the 10baht and fed the fish. Watching the fish go crazy was surreal....they were all so aggressive. Strange experience. Even going around the pens you'd see plastic bags, cigarette packets too...Wish I got a photo to show you the pen- but I was too scared to take the camera incase I fell in! cheers Simon
Ko Samet, Thailand nellyandsime... time very excited to be teaching.I will be living on campus in my own dorm, meals, internet and the gym are all free for me plus I will be making 30,000 baht a month, which is double of what i would i got paid if i stayed with my program. I only have to work half days on wednsday and friday! I will be able to travel on the weekends! Each camp is a month long and I will have the same students during each camp. Pattaya, Thailand stella762... damned thing back up the incline through the five inch deep sand before I got back to level ground. In speaking to one of the locals, there is actually a legend that Ko Samet was inhabited by pirates in the distant past. They say there is still a fortune in treasure buried somewhere among its sandy dunes. From Ko Samet I decided to head further east along the coast of the mainland to Thailand's second-largest and most underdeveloped island destination, Ko Chang.
Ko Samet, Thailand summitmonkee... 2 hours bus for Bangkok. In a way, that was the first time we were all by ourselves, as Ian had been looking after us for the past few days. Thai buses are incredible...from one side you wonder whether you will ever get to destination, from the other they have air con and in this case computer allocated seating!!!
Pattaya, Thailand piero... bars we could find. There was only 1 place that from a distance (of about half a mile!) that looked ok, and as we got closer Carlene tried to convince us the place was packed but as we drew closer any hope of a party vanished as the place was deserted! Today we moved to a new place to stay. Moby ***** was too noisy and in a seedy street. We have moved 2 Barracuda bungalows, which are nice and have a fridge and hot ...
