Up early and off to the national park to do some trekking. Not quite ready for the onslaught as we got out of the van to set off. Hien said we would have some new best friends and indeed we did - we were surrounded and followed on our journey! Our walk was to cat Cat home of the Black Hmong tribe, really lovely people if not a little persistent! One ladies hands were very black, Hien explained it was from the dyes they used to make their clothes black. Nic got the best deals and a few friend...
Sapa, Vietnam andrewslSapa is beutiful. It is like a completely different world altogether. Here the ethnic minorities of vietnam live - the hill tribe people - mainly Black and Red H'mong Dzoa and a few others and it is only 45kilometers to the Lao boarder. We arrived in the mist of the early morning after a relatively uneventful train ride from Hanoi. The other 2 bunks in our cabin were accupied by an Aussie couple originally from Newcastle but now living in Melbourne who, incidentally, had also been accosted by...
Sapa, Vietnam dakgrrlToday is the second of our stay in Sapa and we will be leaving in a couple of hours to make our way back to catch the overnight train from Lao Cai back to Hanoi (first class of course!) I would dread to travel Economy! As has been the case for most of our trip the weather has been very much against us although we've had two tours to seperate villages adjacent which were really enjoyable. The first was Ta Phin home of both H'mong and Dzao minority groups. They live in extremely basic condit...

Sapa, Vietnam nas.latifWe took an overnight train from Hanoi to Sapa (the train was better than our overnight trains in Egypt), really comfortable sleeper cabins.

Went trekking today to Lao Chai and Ta Van villages (14km), where the women of the villages walk with you as guides over some pretty rough terrain. The woman are all really sweet and really chatty. They hand make lots of wallets, bags, wall hanging etc which they want you to buy at the end of the trek and it's hard to say no to ...

Sapa, Vietnam charlyvaness... and weighed it. Holm pulled out an amount of Dong that put my measly Dong to shame and we left.

On the way back to the car the pig found a hole and almost broke out for a great escape. His attempt was thwarted and his feet were tied. He still almost made it out, so we ran a bamboo pole between his legs and escorted him out. I was readying myself for the hike back up the mountain when we came upon a silver minivan, that somehow I missed. Surprising, seeing as how ...
