Maybe if we'd stayed in the new building?

This was the hotel for our one night in Sapa of our Intrepid Sapa Adventure.

We stayed in the 'old' hotel, across the road from the new building where reception, the restaurant, pool, bar etc is found.

    It was pretty nasty.

Mildew on the walls, rock hard beds, no heater, water leaking through the ceiling into the bathroom when the occupants of the room above had a shower.

    No need to continue.

One thing to look our for is the fish tanks around the hotel that have dragonfish in them, all with piercings in their lower jaws. Bizarre

    I love Sapa!

The service at this hotel was over and above what was expected, the staff couldn't have been more helpful. They even took our muddy hiking shoes down to their laundry and scrubbed them for us. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone. Oh and the room with a view was beautiful.

This morning I woke up at 5:30 on the train after several of these during the night. I didn't sleep to well as the track was quite bumpy in fact! After I got up and ready I went back to sleep for another hour, and then at 8am we arrived at the train station. As soon as we got off the train, we hopped on the bus and drove up the mountain to sapa. …

    It's a rainy day!

The night train arrived on time at 5:30 am in Lao Cai, from where we have to take a minibus to Sapa. The Bus is already waiting for us and leaves right away.
The road up to Sapa is supposed to have great views, only we don't see them because it is all cloudy and foggy. Arrived in Sapa we check in to the hotel and go for a walk in the city. ...

It seems a long time ago that I left Hoi An for Hanoi but its fair to say Vietnam is coming up trumps right now and has turned in to a really nice way to round things off as the trip comes to a close.
