Our flight over with Jetstar was very pleasant. Stuart calculated that our business class discounted fare cost us 8.3 cents a kilometre, which is a lot more economical than running his car at home. This also included food and beverage! The service was good and movies, naps and books kept us entertained throughout the flight. Arrival at our …
Meditation
Finally had a good sleep last night. Woke up late as I had intended to go to the Grand Palace this morning. Missed free breakfast a well. Ended up having a probiotic drink a snickers, Gatorade and a latte. I alao had to figure out how to buy a Thai SIM card. That went pretty well. With that I looked at my new trusty Bangkok map that I got at the …
Bangkok day 1.5
Woke up at 6am, went out to balcony to take a few photos of the hazy sunrise. Already hot it was. Decided it was too early to get up so went back to sleep till about 10am. Headed down to breakfast with my trusty map. I figured I should at least get out of the hotel to see something. Decided to go to Wat Pho, the temple I the reclining Buddha. This …
Long haul to Thailand
Sad to leave Italy and especially our wonderful flat in Lake Como. As we jumped on the train we could see more fresh snow had landed on the mountain tips above. I guess my time in the mountains was over. Onto Asia and Thailand. Flying Qatar airlines or the first time was a pleasurable experience. Clean, new modern planes with all the bells and …
Catching up
I had no idea how the 8 hour flight with the boys would go and had been preparing myself for crying, screaming children and wanting to hide under the chair. As it was the boys were delightful. Scott was so excited to be on a plane that taking off was so much fun as he wanted to know all sorts of things that you forget as an adult and.take as …

As a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children - of which our eldest at 12 is classed as an adult) we can not recommend the Chatrium enough. They have been brilliant from the start. We arrived an hour later than we said we would because our pre-booked one-way transfer with bangkoktransfer.com didn't meet us at the airport (it was pre-booked and paid for). When we did arrive the hotel were very pleased to see us and the day manager came out to welcome us. The hotel is in a fabulous location, right on the river front which creates a much needed breeze in the heat of the day (and night). The hotel is spotless and very relaxing. Huge comfy chairs and sofas everywhere, and always plenty of people (staff) around to ask for help and advice. The pool is gorgeous and a welcome sight after a hot day sight-seeing, and in much demand by our children - bribed with a swim at the end of a day of temples and monuments. We had a 2-bed suite which had a huge lounge area and small but adequate kitchen with fridge etc. With 2 bathrooms it was much easier and quicker to all get ready (and needed with a fussy 12-yr old girl too). We used the free shuttle boat to Sathan Taksin pier a lot, where you can take the Skystrain (BTS) or other boats up and down river. Its only 4 stops from Siam Square - which we left in a hurry - the back-streets of our local area and the back-streets around the Golden Monument, Grand Palace and Tha Tien are much more interesting and cheaper places to eat and drink - you must try the street food stalls

I'm a big fan of Serviced Apartments, especially when your traveling with kids. So I booked the 2 bedroom apartment for our stay. I couldn't fault anything. The apartment was a good size particularly the master bedroom. The swimming pool was awesome, and their resturant devine. We had the buffet dinner on our 2nd and last night, and wanted to eat everything. The staff were friendly and helpful. They provide a complimentary boat to take you to the nearest river boat taxi stop, which is only 10 mins away. All in all, I can thoroughly recommend the Chatrium and my family and I all wished we had stayed longer.
