... you could imagine and then some! Philip had the aged beef, Rachel had the pigeon and I had the lobster. But words don't do justice to the tastes and flavours we experienced. It was a taste sensation!

The dessert place settings were laid down after the table was cleared, and then cleaned with a razor-like gadget. But what was this? It didn't look anything like the chocolate grand cru dessert Rachel had ordered. Her face was a study, as ...

... down into Italy to Bardonecchia for lunch. Back to La Grave on a shuttle, thank goodness because the one guy and one guide who did the extra option back said the headwind was brutal. We laugh that the rest day this week is the equivalent of my big ride at home. The final day of cycling was supposed to be Alpe d'Huez. Back on the bikes! 60km from Allemont up to a little town called Villard Reymond. The village way tiny. On the way we had to ride through 3 pitch black tunnels the longest which was 370m. There was one little old French lady with a cafe overlooking the mountains, so we stopped for some apricot tart and raspberry mousse. She was the loveliest lady! Back ...

    Rest day at Allemont

A travel blog entry by eyork on Jul 29, 2015

We left our beloved botchy field, filled up with petrol and drove around the corner to Allemont. We hunted again for gas, or some way to make it work, but no luck. Again. Not very happy! Not only with the gas, but also troubles with the fridge and 12V powerpoints. Baguette for lunch, set up the van with electricity and went for a walk. Cold and rainy this afternoon, but still able to wander through the town of Allemont. A nice quiet rest day ...
