Marseille

Really beautiful train ride along the coast (which in a way it is a shame that the railway is right on the beach) Marseille is a bigger city and not so quaint but the port area is nice. Flew out of Marseille to Lisbon. I know not quite geographically logicall

... I stammer back
"Meguez?! How do you know Merguez?! Where did you first eat Merguez?"
"Canada"
He's shocked to hear that we've heard of Merguez in Canada. "Maybe the Algerian community is making it there" he guesses.

The places is packed, with a fun atmosphere. There's only the one man behind the counter, though once in a while a customer will go back to help themselves to a pop or more ketchup. There's plenty of banter, though most of it I don't ...

... Halloween by dressing up as FAME! – oh so scary – and going to a party in a basement with some other ERASMUS
students, ending the night with a good portion of chips. The French don’t really ‘do’ Halloween, although they do have a holiday for All Saints’, so it meant we were easily recognised as foreign, as usual, but on the other hand meant we got free drinks and sweets! There’s also been Remembrance Day (and no, I don’ ...

France sucks at Halloween

... English in the entire town. We found our hostel super late at night (and they don't make hostels in France like they did in Spain... no more free internet!). The next morning, we walked into town not really knowing what to see or do. But as we were looking for a quick Petit Dejuner (breakfast) we stumbled upon the Saturday market. We sat at a cafe on the square and had the most amazing breakfast 5 euro can buy if you ...

Amorous or Foolhardy?

... 8230;

First of all, we had a deadline. Something neither of us are accustomed to dealing with right now. Ferry departs Marseille at 7pm. Brian was concerned about covering the 100 km distance and finding the port in time. So, up extra early and on the road withour even eating breakfast! After all of the worry and fussing, and snaps of the whip to go ‘faster’, we arrived at the port at ...

Over a month in...

As it is nearly a month after my last entry, the time has come to write my third installment of mes aventures francaises...

Having spent most of my free time out with the girls (drinking far too much 1664 and sangria), I didn't think I'd have much to write about, hence the delay on this entry, however the length of this will probably tell you that I was wrong! For a start, we've had two 21st birthdays so far, Lizzie's and then Louise's today, so lots of celebrating ...

Bonjour avec Aix-en-Provence Cherie
Since the last news we have visited the Cote D'Azur spending time at Monte Carlo and Antibes. We stayed near Antibes at a place called Biot and at night you could hear the seals at nearby Marineland - very strange. It was still quite hot and stickey with more mozzies. Monte Carlo was wall to wall money with billions of dollars in boats and cars. Antibes was similar but it had a lovely old town as well.
We arrived ...

LOST & FOUND IN MARSEILLES- BLUE BALLS & ALL

... I lived here- that’s the epiphany of any trip for me- Skyping my wife every day and eating instant noodles. The big grocery chains charge more than a € for a pack, but you can score in the Vietnamese shops for a quarter that. So I buy an electric water kettle for inn-room coffee and noodles. It’ll pay for itself in the long run. Ever the creative one, I experiment putting Nutella in my coffee, figure ...

... During dinner they kept paging a few people as the time was drawing nearer the time we were supposed to leave. The ship departed 45 minutes late to begin with, but as we pulled away a taxi showed up with 2 of the missing passengers. Then about 15 minutes after we left the ship stopped and a little tug boat came along and pulled along side the ship where 2 women got off and rejoined the party. Boy ...

... at 8:00 PM every night and not going for a midnight snack, I thought I'd show him. It was fun. Our waiter was working, all the assistant waiters had completed their shift for the night. The pace was much slower, and our waiter (Rusmir) seated me at the table, which gave us a few moments to talk. I cannot let these people work so hard for us and not build a friendship with them, especially after being with them for 2 weeks. Rusmir told me that he and his co-workers ...
