Chantilly

... up & drove off - nervous as always when first behind the wheel - driving on the "wrong" side of the road when we are tired after such a long flight, but we made it safely to Chantilly in about half an hour. Very happy with our hotel Chateau de Montvillargenne - checked in straight away but no clean clothes due to delayed bags, so still had ...

Contiki Day 2: Paris, now with wandering

I played with this little magnetic one in the Scottish musuem, and I had the possibility of cheating, and a duplicate to work off it. Also, it was made for a child. I still struggled. - the person who looks at Greek statues and goes "yup, that's Zeus". I thought that Zeus was typically depicted with a beard, and was ...

Three-day weekend

... metro by myself going to the Champ de Mars to watch the Bastille Day fireworks. The man sittinng next to me began talking to me and it turned out that he is a contributing editor and photojournalist for Harper's Magazine. He gave me advice about careers, getting a degree at the SciencePo and left me with his business card. It's not always easy to make lasting friendships, of course, because it's most likely that you live far away from whoever you meet. I was lucky ...

A long week!

... lifting guys, girls lifting girls... kinda crazy and unexpected for me) and very little foot work at all. However, it was overall a very moving and sad ballet. Today I am taking the day to rest and get caught up on homework since this weekend is going to be very full! It is Bastille day (French independence day i.e the start of the French revolution) on Monday so we have a three day weekend (yay!). Tomorrow I am going to see how I ...

Sunday - Monte Cristo

... back. Once on our own we didn't know what to do! anyway down I went on a couple of private drives to find someone to point us in the right direction as there were no signs pointing the way to this famous landmark! and the "square" was a bus stop on the road! so after some extra exercise we finally realized we should walk in the direction the bus went after it dropped us off (that's a tip if you're going!) go up the hill and then there is a large sign on ...

Paris: Day 6

... invited me to join him and his friends for a party he organized at a restaurant/bar (turns out that he set it up as an event on Facebook) tonight. He said they'd be there around eight and I should come by to have a drink and talk with people. Sounded good to me! (Honestly, I think he felt bad about my dinner track record after I explained about my London disasters.) He made sure I was on the right train (so nice!) to get to my hotel, and I was on my way. Turns out the ...

Departures & Arrivals

... of a pick me up to get us across the city.  Its early in the morning and commuter traffic hasn't really yet started.  We all love Paris, so no matter we're jet lagged; its a treat just to pass through at high speed to the train station. My advice..plan ahead.  The train stations in Paris are often crowded and not much worth hanging about.  We thought ahead by ...

Paris Je t'aime...

... that said if you walked from the top of the garden to the bottom it would take an hour. Um, holy *****, that's a lot. Versailles was a nice place to go. We picked up some cheese and some bread and cheap ass wine and we went on a boat cruise with our group. The boat cruise was awesome man, sooo pretty. We went at sunset and it was so beautiful. We ended up going to the Eiffel tower at night and we sat under it and ...

24 Hours in Paris - Part I

... my arrival. The bus that my ticket was for seemed to be taking a while. I waited. I waited. There were others waiting too. I met my Austrian friend. We waited. Finally, we found out from one of the other busses that one of the transit lines had decided to go on strike. We're about to see about exchanging our tickets with the lady who probably knew she sold us strike tickets in the first place. And then we find out that the strike has been called off and a bus will be arriving ...

Ma-Louvreing through Paris

... of Paris. It has taken us all over the place today. It is one of the easiest public transit systems that I have ever used. With the Graffiti, the interesting people and some of the billboards it acts as a sort of art museum of its own. Some video footage of the Metro in Paris www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMEwIzSKLbg Well it is time to get some rest so that we can meet the day tomorrow with fresh minds and eyes.
