Today was a very heavy day of travel, over 10 hours in the bus and short stops along the way as we made our way into France. We made a stop in the town of Besanšon where we ate a sandwich and toured a Catholic church in the town square. Then we trekked the rest of the way to the city of Troyes where we checked into our hotel and had a nice dinner with quiche, beef, and a chocolate cake dessert. We then took a short walk ...

Tuesday we headed out from Gray, past the barrage and along quiet riverbanks, as we get the hang of the canals. I admire the few houses we see; mostly it is very rural, or we see the 'bois ' forests. We stop for lunch along the canal, and the boys haul us back to a good spot. We visit Heuilly-sur-Saône to find a war memorial surrounded by shell cases? We see lots of herons, swans: a few with cygnets, and we all see the 'marten de peche' kingfisher, swoop ...
