... adaptors to save weight. so i spent 4 hrs thinking how on earth i was going to navigate to bordeaux without a gps given my map which has a scale of 10k=1cm....i.e. not at all helpful for cycling, is hence useless for navigation. its funny but those few hours felt completely different as i just thought that was it, no more communicating with home, it finally felt like i was travelling by myself in the unknown. no more french lessons on my iPod or BBC news, or films/tv in english ...

Another grey day but a little warmer at 17c. Today we have a pre booked excursion for the whole group with Maryse of Bordeaux Excursions. There is a small hitch as we have a misunderstanding about meeting times but at 9am we meet and set off in her immaculate minibus. We are docked in the commercial port, there is no cruise terminal, no taxis,no buses and it is pouring down! We have all booked shuttle tickets into Soulac sur Mer ( $18 pp return) for 9.45 am so we grab brollies and waterproofs and off we go. The alternative is a shuttle to the Royan ferry, but this is now on its winter timetable so the ferries are few and far between so we decide against risking an overnight stop there.
