This morning, we helped clean up Bruce's cabin a little bit, dried out our clothes and headed out on our way. We went for another hike at another waterfall, but I can't remember its name. We walked around exploring a little bit, and I fell asleep in the warm sunshine on a big rock. When I woke up, Keith was gone. I looked around briefly for him, decided he probably got bored and went to the car, so I headed back there. All alone in the woods, and terrified of bears jumping out from around the...

... floating on cloud nine after hearing how well our men's broomball team did down at the World Broomball Championships. They took a gold medal in the Challenge Cup, which is the b-side of the championship. They started with 2 losses, then came back with a vengence and managed 8 wins in a row!!! Congratulations guys, so proud of you all. It's going to be difficult taking Ripley to the ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada justjan... just miss it and have to wait for it to cross and then return. Once across the Laird River it is a further 15km into Fort Simpson, which lies on the junction between the Laird and Mackenzie Rivers. The town of Fort Simpson is fairly small considering it is the main service centre for several hundred miles in all directions. There is one main street, with approx half a dozen shops. The side roads are where the residents of Fort ...
Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories, Canada jms79... had to climb over this little stream and my foot slipped on a wet rock, when what do you know? My camera falls right into the water. I jumped in after it and picked it right up, but it still broke. Heartbroken and plagued with a major soaker, I continued on. Keith's camera was also acting up, and only taking photos from what looked like Jupiter. But I think we can fix them in Photoshop later.
As we continued down along the river we were not ...
Muskox for lunch - same colour as shaved beef really. Similar marble, a bit chewier and a more 'liver' taste... somewhat of a jerky aftertaste. It was delicious! Senica ordered a caribou and muskox poutine - how much more Canadian can you get when it comes to food?! Here we sit at the Wild Cat Café, this log cabin looks like an old furtrading post, it's been around since the 1930s. The Legislative ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada lolly... reaction, I sat down as well. The lady informed me there would be no ice, so I just ordered a vegetable juice. "Go get it yourself." Seriously? *eyeroll* The juice was in the fridge, and yep, it was warm, too. Anyway, I was not refreshed after this meal, eaten in the direct sunlight, sans ice. Needless to say, she got zero dollars for a tip. Codfish = good however. Yesterday, we saw a poster for a play that was "pay what you can", so we ...
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada starlagurl... is a turn around point for many travelers. At kilometre 200, I found myself in the same situation as Myles when he is flying his aircraft on pilotage navigation. (see EXCURSIONS: Blog 50) I had to decide whether to go on to Eagle Plains or to turn around. If I drove much further there would not be enough fuel to turn around to the starting point. The consequence would be to sputter to the side of the road with no gas in the tank. Sputtering to the side of ...
