The staff decided to give the boys "the morning off" to explore Santa Monica and have some free time where they could just wander around and get their fix of shopping in before the game this afternoon. They grabbed this opportunity with two hands! So after breakfast and a team meeting they were off in their groups to explore the sights of Santa Monica and shop. The parents and staff took this opportunity as well. Some walked to Venice beach which proved ...

    LA here we come!

After getting to bed reasonably early James woke unexpectedly at 12am with a croup cough. Not good. After some calpol and tears we got him down again and he woke again at 4 ish. Then Chlo woke at 5:30 and that was that. Great start to a long day of travelling. So we checked out and were on the road by 9:15am. We decided to take a drive through Palm Beach just for fun (and for the record was a waste as we saw nothing) and then headed to ...

... we learned this trick yesterday. They get us straight onto a tour and we leave almost immediately. We look at lots of celebrity houses and I feel quite voyeuristic- I think the whole thing is a bit silly really. Eventually we make our way onto Mulholland Drive where we are a tiny bit, but not much closer to the Hollywood sign. We both think the ...

    ... our car.

We had dinner at another diner, they are all fairly similar. The staff here were a lot older (mid 40's up) and the accent is just classic, Laverne and Shirley stuff. They were lovely people as well, deserving the tip we left them - getting good at this now.

Our hotel was surprisingly quiet and nice considering it lies right alongside the Freeway. It has recently been refurbished, so everything is new and very clean, Russell made good ...

... the areas of LA we were used to, it stank and was completely run down - it was like something you'd see on a Mexican gangster film (perhaps we have)! We looked at getting a cab but they were $30 dollars so instead we braved it and waited for a bus back home. We waited for what seemed like 3 hours but really it was about 30 minutes - worst 30 minutes ever. I was so so glad to finally see the bus, and can't quite believe we weren't shot/kidnapped before it arrived! Since it ...
