... amazing gardens, including a lake, tennis court and maze. The gardens were divided into sections, and while looking spectacular, on closer inspection, there was an assortment of lettuces, cabbages, zucchini, pumpkins and tomatoes growing in the whole front section. Tan other terraced area was the herb gardens, the beds in geometrical patterns, with the herb beds symmetrical. Beautiful as well as practical. Returning to Tours on a different trail, we somehow got lost yet again, ...

Long drive in rain

This morning was grey, wet, and the long drive took it's toll on our enthusiasm for Chateau D'Oiron near Loudun. Coming home with provisions fresh from the farm for the next two days we waited out thethunderstorm which finished a small heatwave of 34 degrees. At eight we were seated in L'Aigle D'Or for what turned out to be a special night of good food and some old wines. A 2008 sancerre and a 1999 medoc after a cremant de Loire had us in the mood to open up just like the ...

... had to wait two hours before or after eating .. I prefer to wait 2 hours prior to eating.

Leaving our shoebox
Showered and dressed, we ended up leaving the hotel around 7am – I thought I had been slow getting ready and that it was 8am !! Silly me. We went to the train station and found a seat in front of the indicator boards so we could see which platform to go to. I bought some breakfast - the choice was a filled baguette or pastries. I ...
