Yesterday, we toured Auschwitz and Birkenau. It was, of course, as one would imagine, sobering. It was Auschwitz that I had prepared my heart for to be the worse, but it was Birkenau that took me by surprise. I was overcome with the massiveness of the place. It was almost too real to be real! We came unprepared to spend the night camping there as all we had was a bit of food and a blanket, but no sleeping bags or anything else. At around 2am we started plotting the return to Praha, and it was not until nearly 5am that we made it back to Rodrigo's. All in all the ...
