Korean Job Hunting Bible

... country is cold in the winter and without good heating (-5 C/ 20 F) and super hot and humid in the summer (35 C/ 95 F). there is good public transport. one downfall is that its a tad bit more expensive to live. but the night life is great. there are the most ethnic food options (italian, indian, american etc...) if you want this i can put you in touch with some friends who had great experiences in seoul.

busan (pusan) is where i would go if ...

In Korea's southern hills

... using antibiotics I have been toting in my medical kit and supplemented with a heavy dose of horizontal rest I triumph over the internal invaders in a couple of days. Nonetheless, a sense of completion has been settling into me gradually over the last few weeks. The knowledge I have gained here had a tone of culmination and attainment. I have a plan for my life at home. I know what to do and am now anxious to begin anew. My illness drives me to the computer to book a flight home.

Beopjusa...

... of hours of huffing and puffing, I eventually made it to the summit of Munjangdae and the views were excellent. It was slowly starting to cloud over at this point though, so I didn't hang around as I didn't have any waterproofs. Instead, I went to find my abode for the night which was snuggly tucked away in the forest, next to a stream...bliss! I managed to squeeze in another visit to Beopjusa before nightfall, and I'm glad that I did ...

168 Hours

· Jochiwon, South Korea · GMT +8:00 hours · Days until we finish camp - 25 · Days until we leave Korea - 30 Fine Print There are 168 hours in a week. Somehow it feels there is more than that when you're on the administrative side of the Camp Korea fence. We've typically been spending less than 50 of those aforementioned 168 hours sleeping. The other 120 or so hours are spent, or have been spent in the last week at least ...

It's All Uphill From Here

... to class it as a 'real' snowfall, the first one we've seen this winter. It's adding to the difficulties of getting ready for camp; the pizza delivery man had to walk up the hill to our dorm/office building this evening because his little scooter couldn't climb the slippery hill and the operations guys (grunts) are carrying boxes of CK sweatshirts up the same hill as I type (the delivery truck couldn't handle the hill either ...

A Bad Idea?

... she's the boss of 3 camps, me 6 & we share 1). It's a nice one too, a lot better than the 6-year-old dinosaur I'm using. We might even be able to play games on it. But, and here's the but, it's all in Korean. Now I know what you're thinking, "what did you expect Dave, you're in Korea after all." And while I admire your powers of observation, they are not going to help Meg figure out Korean pop-pop messages or menus. Any ideas?

The Ambassador

... should get a haircut. Umm. I tend to agree with ya Sis. Maybe I'll treat myself to a 'Christmas haircut'. They are all the rage, didn't you know?... the 00's equivalent of the 80's & 90's 'Christmas jumper'. · The Ambassador It's me against the rest when camp starts. Sifting through the details of all 46 teacher has shown us that once they all arrive next week we're gonna be, as is always the case in CK, surrounded by lots of Canadians and Australians, with a few ...

Driving Away from Korea

... in front of the line of cars and wait past the line. This is so typical of Korean mentality. Why wait? If there is a way to cut to the front, do it. This is typically done by asking your network of people to help out.

Professional drivers, taxis, are the most lawless. Even though they are low on the totem pole of success, they rule on the streets. They are similar to the politicians. According to Confucianism, the legal tradition developed for the benefit of ...

Driving Away from Korea

... No one else is there so it is possible to do whatever you want. If traffic has 5 lanes and you are in the far left lane, it is not uncommon to watch someone from the extreme right lane cross the other 4 and cut you off. However, the most annoying thing about an accident is that people simply leave their car wherever it stops. If two cars have a head on collision in the middle of the intersection, they leave the cars where they crashed and all the debris laying ...

I'm a BLACK BELT!

... br>
The history of Hapkido is intertwined with the political history of Korea. The location of the country, a small peninsula sandwiched between the northern part of China and the island of Japan, has caused them to be invaded time and time again. Everyone wants a piece of Korea. But the most recent invasion was the fifty year occupation by Japan (1894 - 1945, they had to leave due to loosing WWII). During this occupation Koreans were suppressed in their culture, political ...
