... it’s the third time I’ve tried to read it. It’s not a light read. I’m about 8 hours into it and only half done. In parts I feel like it’s trying too hard. It is historical fiction and about a time that I know little about so I find it interesting. It interplays French, English, German, and Dutch history so it’s discussing things that I’m seeing right now.

        I always start out ...

Returned to the same restaurant as we had used the night before as were so impressed and not disappointed either. Lovely place and very good ...

... br> After settling in we took a stroll to check it out and found we were only about 350 metres from the impressive Chateau in Bauge. after our stroll we had decided on a restaurant which was part of an Auberge de France hotel. It was excellent.

We had passed by Bauge a number of times over the years but as the road towards Le Man bypasses the centre we had never stopped.

... wasn't on the itinerary so was a nice surprise. It's built in a lake fed by a river and it's fairly small for a chateau. We agreed it would be manageable. It is a Renaissance castle that fell into disrepair and was eventually resurrected by a Spaniard in the early 20th century. It's no longer inhabited, but it's been decorated to look as if it is. Well, some rooms, anyway. If you can describe a castle as cozy, this would be it.

We had time to spend ...
