... amazing gardens, including a lake, tennis court and maze. The gardens were divided into sections, and while looking spectacular, on closer inspection, there was an assortment of lettuces, cabbages, zucchini, pumpkins and tomatoes growing in the whole front section. Tan other terraced area was the herb gardens, the beds in geometrical patterns, with the herb beds symmetrical. Beautiful as well as practical. Returning to Tours on a different trail, we somehow got lost yet again, ...

Coming home with provisions fresh from the farm for the next two days we waited out thethunderstorm which finished a small heatwave of 34 degrees. At eight we were seated in L'Aigle D'Or for what turned out to be a special night of good food and some old wines. A 2008 sancerre and a 1999 medoc after a cremant de Loire had us in the mood to open up just like the ...

... the French call "Love in a Cage," and a very long string of hardened caramel. Mine was at least a foot and a half long. And all this was on a hot chocolate sauce with a flat piece of sugary crispness. We all agreed it was the best part of the meal. We didn't get out of there till 10:00. And when we got back, I couldn't get my damned door open again! Thank God Barb came along after a few minutes.

Off to more chateaux in the morning!

    P.S. Happy birthday, Mom!
