... We then made our way back to Monza train station and after saying goodbye to Anita and Michel, we caught the train for 2.5hrs to Tirano. Tirano is 10mins away from Brusio which is where my Great Uncle Roberto and Great Aunty Ilaria live- we stayed with them for 3 nights. Arianna their daughter (mum's cousin), picked us up- she's so sweet, apparently she'd come an hour early because she was so excited! I was super excited to see her ...

... we got there, Roberto told us about the tower up the top which was used to communicate to people in the other nearby mountains hundreds of years ago. We then walked through the old town which had a football field with rocks for spectators to sit on. For lunch we had pizzoccheri. This is a traditional pasta of this town and is made with dark flour which makes the pasta look almost black. Arianna was explaining to us that the pasta makes you feel ...

I started looking for hotel signs. Followed a few signs but didn't find anything. I was driving through a valley with lush hills on both sides and streams flowing along the road. Just after Spinedi-Ca' San Giorgio I saw a hotel and restaurant on the side of the road, with parking. Perfect!

Friendly staff that spoke enough English, good price. Wifi and a good restaurant. What a day!

... There were views on either side of the train and the camera was getting a work out but I don't think it did the view justice. The Monteratsch glacier came into view, apparently the glacier used to be right beside the station 160 years ago but it has retreated significantly since then (hopefully tomorrow we will walk the glacier). We arrived in St Moritz and our driver was waiting for us, we checked in, not really knowing what to expect as we booked ...

      1696. An Amazing Discovery

... how deep this gorge is. As gorges go, this is definitely one of my favorites. Sure, it doesn't have the grandeur of the Grand Canyon, but the claustrophobic feel here of being inside the bowels of the Alps--a completely different and unique experience. I'm also acutely aware that if I drop my camera, it will be gone forever, along with all the pictures I've take over these amazing last couple of days! Up ahead there's a place where you can go down close ...
