... have no interest in our traditions--they're just here for a free slice of watermelon!" I think of a caption for my photos: "BREAKING NEWS: Italy, to pay off its national debt has sold one of its provinces to China. Prato (which will now has been rechristened PLATO). Here pictured is the ceremony welcoming its new residents with a slice of watermelon" I talk about this to an Italian friend and he didn't find it so amusing. "The Chinese are taking over ...

This morning I get up early to stand in line for the Accademia. It opens at 8.30, I'm in line by 8, and I'm in before 9. Much faster than Vatican experience! The David statue is indeed very detailed (and very tall); you can see detail such as veins standing out on an arm or hand. Today I experienced my first full day of uni. I made some friends (yay) and quickly realised that the pace of the "intensive Italian class" was so ridiculously fast it was like a runaway train, one which unless you were fit enough to catch up to it, ...

... in Singapore and one in Paris.... For 7 hours each. As a result I was given the opportunity to develop my people watching skills, create my own fun game "which-wifi-can-you-connect-to-for-free -for-longer-than-15mins" and carry my oversized 15kg hand luggage around various terminals. As I'm sure you can appreciate, despite the apparent lack-of-energy required to sit on a plane for over 20hours (cumulatively), there is nothing one looks forward to most than dumping ...
