Mar. 17th and it's time to get caught up. I'm really into holiday mode now so it's not like we''ve been too busy it's just that I'm getting lazier. But we've been busy too. We're already into our third day in Bali. But first things first. Here's what we've been up to. After Tweed's Head we pushed north again past Brisbane to Hervey (pronounced Harvey, why I don't know) Bay. Bali isn't Bali either to the Aussie's it's Baaaly, they didn't even understand where we were going when we said Bali. A...
Hervey Bay, Australia wetwoHello from Oz. Looks like the blog from Christchurch may have not been published properly, so you may well be getting these two blogs simultaneously, after wondering why you hadn't heard from us for some time.
Anyway, we have been in Oz for just over a week now and it has been probably the best week of our travels so far.
We flew into Brisbane, but only had just over a day there, so went to the Lone Pine koala sanctuary. Here they have 130 of the little marsupials ...
... back and are exhausted so again having an earily night. Even if they didn't fancy an early night they have little choice. The bar in the hostel has nothing happening, no entertainment not even any music just a TV shopwing baseball and other **** sports (well they're all **** to me but baseball is worse!). There's nothing to entice people in and make them drink, I had a beer earlier and ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia stevewade... side which wasn't the best idea as the sea was quite choppy and the captain had to shut the engines off because the whale was so close. It was a mum with her youong calf and the guide said it looks like the young calf was feeding by the shadows under the water so when it was safe to do so the captain moved us away from them and we headed off towards a boat that was a short distance away and we could see that there was a whale breaching and jumping out ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia gaz-lj... there were many poverty stricken customers who could not pay their bills.
After a few days of rest and recuperation and being certain that the antibiotics were beginning to work on the infection I prepared to move on. Not certain where to go next I finally decided on Mount Tambourine which a fellow camper had recommended as worth a visit, so armed with two lots of spare tablets just in case of emergencies I set off southwards again.
... br>The only downside to the 12 hour journey was when my normally handsome husband woke up looking like a Gremlin/Sloth/Rabid Gorilla - with his face all distorted, if you think that’s bad, he then starts pointing to his ****** – indicating he needed the loo, I didn’t know whether to laugh at the sight or cry at the fact that I married it. lol! But is ok, I soon had my handsome husband back!
We will carry on with our travels & keep you all posted!!
... the island with fresh water and not at a beach. Then set off in hunt of Wabby Lake and after helping some others bogged in the sand we ended up driving past the turn off and by the time we discovered this couldn't be bothered going back as it was getting late and had had enough of bumpy roads for the day - maybe another day. Enjoyed the fish for dinner that we'd caught yesterday. Think wil be an early night tonight.
... most exciting game of hide-n-seek you can possibly imagine! After realising the whales actually loved the attention we let out thunderous applause and squeals of appreciative delight.
The more we carried on like English football fans, the more the whales played and danced alongside the boat. The crowd got whipped up into an absolute frenzy as a pair of cheeky young humpback's posed for more close ups than ...
... right on the beach, and put our tents up in the dark. i say campsite, its not really. theres no facilities, just a space to put your tent. was proper rough camping, toilet in the bush, no showers etc. good fun.
that night we had a good feed and a few drinks, and went to visit the other group too, who were quite a bit better than us. but we had a cool group and everyone was happy. we also had our first encounter with the local inhabitants of the island, the ...
... smokes marijuana, but I wasn't really up for going there. Hippies freak me out. Cut your hair! Stop smoking so much weed and do something productive with your life! However, the people I've spoken to since have said it was great in a very weird sort of way. Perhaps I should have gone?
From Fraser Island it was back to Hervey Bay and travelling back south to hit Noosa, Brisbane and then onto Melbourne, my final destination.
