We set off early from Beaune to start the drive to the Loire Valley. Our first stop was Chateau de Chambord. This huge palace was first built by Francis I, King of France at the time that Henry VIII was King of England. Ben noticed that the castle had a moat and inside a special winding staircase (a double helix). On the ceiling, Ben and Jon noticed a fire breathing lizard (a salamander which was the emblem of Francis) and big letter ...

... to close the ablutions! (And there is still no soap in the dispensers - 3 days now!) So we chose to take a trip out and have lunch. Came across Montoire sur Le Loir. Le Loir is a different river to the Loire. It is smaller. However it was a lovely town, adjoined to another village called Lavardin with medieval castle ruins. Went for a swim and then read my book for a couple of hours in the sun. It's a hard life! Reading in Daily Mail on line about trouble at Calais. I hope that it will be sorted by next week. We are booked in at a campsite for the last few days at Sangatte. It was cheap but got very good reviews on Somalian ...

... markets, some even were setting up with live bands, and lovely food stalls. We were a bit early for them, but managed to try some cheeses, sausages, etc from their sample plates. With only 50 kms to Sully sur Loire, we arrived before lunch, and after not seeing our mates all morning, they rode past us as we entered town. There was much waving and Bonjours. For once, we found our hotel easily. It's a beautiful little boutique hotel, with only 9 rooms, ...

... were left as they were for us all to enjoy. The chateau itself is amazing but the grounds were a little disappointing. Just lawn area, with a little moat along the front. By the time we left, the buses were starting to roll in ready for the 9.00 opening time. Today's ride was mostly flat, along good trails, and through great little villages. The trail is well sign posted, except for some of the villages, where it's a bit ...
