      ... providers either couldn't speak English or didn't think Evan was speaking English and internet checkouts were not working. Eventually after much time and effort and a few soothing pats on the head the job was done. Then we realised no GPS was ordered, and so the process began again, in a slightly more condensed version.       ... Forrest' sayings such as 'Run Forrest Run' and 'My Mama says, stupid is as stupid does'. The waiters were all part of the act: they seated us and then returned a while later to give us a pop-quiz on Forrest Gump (which Nomes trumped me at, of course!) On the table, two license plates stood attached by metal rings. One read 'run Forrest run' and the other 'stop Forrest stop'. When we needed the waiter all we had to do to was flip the sign to 'stop Forrest stop' ...

      ... We walked about 4 k's from Santa Monica Pier up Venice Beach and back then started driving back to the apartment, the GPS battery died about a quarter of the way so we switched to using my phone maps, then my phone battery died! Managed to get back eventually but we definitely took the scenic route.

      That's about all for day 1, we made it to our goal of staying awake till 6pm so its bed time now.

      ... 5 hours. At this point I've only slept about 4 hours total. Kinda dying. There is an entire Israeli track & field team on the plane. Somewhat of a **** show. Food was ehh. Definitely not in the mood to go deal with customs. The Israeli customs can profile, which they can't do in America, so this will definitely be strange. Also these flights have had awful turbulence, which really sucks for the few who are kinda scared of ...
