... the Soloist. It was dark when we checked in so we couldn't see our view - a surprise awaited us for the next morning. As we hadn't eaten dinner, we decided to head out to a mall, grab a bite and see if we could complete our shopping list before the shops closed at 9pm. I had forgotten how nothing in LA is close .... what looked close on the map took us 30 minutes to drive to (and I had initially suggested maybe we walk, we only drove in case we had parcels on the way back ....). ...

We found a part relatively close but had to pay $20 for the ...

I discovered that he'd worked out how to get the cafés free wifi without going in (and buying ...

... like it had been buffed with sandpaper, bad re sprays on minor repairs, inside was filthy and weirdly scratched up. However, at the end of the day, it was a $400 upgrade we didn't pay for. Wendy did a great job navigating us out of SF after we went back and picked up our gear from the apartment and we headed off about 11. Got into Monterey about 3:30 after a scenic drive down the coast. By coincidence it was car week in Monterey and the hotel had been over run by the auction ...

... Hollywood sign. We also went to the Death Museum, listed as one of the best unusual museums to visit in LA. It was a truly revolting way to pass a few hours.

And that was it - 5 days was not nearly long enough especially when I managed to waste 2 of them. We will definitely go back to LA so that we can do it justice as we loved everything about it from the perfect weather to the friendly people. And after 5 months of South American food, the food was awesome! ...
