Day 28. Falmouth

Today the weather was perfect. We had decided to go to Falmouth and take a ferry across to St Mawes. Then I read that we could take a 2 hour cruise from Falmouth down to the Helford River. This sounded good as Edie had said when we were coming back from St Michaels Mount that she would like to keep floating all day. We left the cottage a bit later than usual and it was lunchtime by the time we got to Falmouth. It was a big town. We came to a car park where ...

Day 27. Port Isaac +

... no doubt a few more. But it was a nice flat little village with very colourful houses and flower adorned pubs. Further south we stopped again at Newquay where we had arrived a week ago. This is a modern "party town" a reputation it got from the thousands of surfers who flock here each summer. There was no surf today but the cliffs with pathways leading down to the sea where quite something. Heading back to the cottage we decided to get takeaway for dinner. Bad idea. Where are ...

... news! Edie decided that we should go to Truro, the main city in Cornwall and have a look around. We arrived just before midday and parked in a multi-storey car park. We were near the cathedral which seems to dominate the skyline from every angle. There are many fine Georgian Terraces in town as well as a good shopping precinct. We actually bought a few things. We went to a flea market in the town hall and bought ...

We have seen St Michaels Mount a couple of times in the distance, but it has always been hazy. Today we are going there to see it up close. The guide book says it opens at 10.00, so we have a lazy breakfast before heading off. Back down the A30 to Penzance, but before we get there we take a left to Marazion. Once again we shell out a few £'s to park the car, and start walking towards the Mount. To my surprise the tide is low and we have to walk across The Causeway. ...

... and then headed to the south coast and Penzance. Most shops were shut. We walked along the Causeway which was the main market street in olden days. We then found Chapel Street where the oldest buildings are to be found. This was quite interesting. And that was about it. On the whole Penzance doesn't really have much going for it. And there was not a pirate in sight. We got back to the cottage about 4.30 and I watched the French Open Men's final. We decided that we would go to ...
