... sit and stare. All we could say was: wow.
Paddling out of the lagoon, we decided to ignore the burn in our arms and attempt to paddle around the island entirely. After we got about a quarter way around, the water got choppy and the aching in our arms became slightly more apparent and I hate to admit it, but we gave up on our grandious idea and head back for some lazy beach time. I'm sure one of those really hardcore active people would have crusaded ...

Finally with all appropriate forms filled in, we went outside and found our ride to the Andaman,an awesome little boutique hotel in the northern part of Phuket. Isolate, quiet and peaceful, the perfect spot to wind down after a busy year.
Unfortunately we couldnt swim (no swimmers), so we headed to the bar to have a few ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Chanalai Garden Resort Kata Beach
Buona ubicazione, troppe scale!!
Good location - Far Too Many Stairs!!
My Fiance and I stayed at this property for 13 nights July/August 06. When we initially arrived at the hotel after travelling for many hours our room was not ready.
We found the property to be good but has many many stairs. When we booked the accommodation we requested a Superior Sea View. We were given room 6411. This was a good sized room with a good balcony. It took us about 10 minutes to walk from the reception to the room tho. We eventually asked for a room change and changed to 2301 overlooking the garden and 2nd pool area.
General cleanliness was ok. The cleaners for the rooms attended at different times each day and then after they left they would return again later in the day with towels and refils for the mini bar. One one occasion we returned to the room to find workmen in our room fixing the bed. The door was wide open. We were not happy.
Staff at the hotel were friendly.
Hotel is good location and taxi and tuk tuk are available to take you whereever you wantto go for a reasonable price. Hotel taxi's are more expensive.
We booked a few trips with the travel arranging lady who is in the hotel. Trips were all great. Picked up and dropped off as described.
Beste Lage! Wundervolles Personal!
Great Island Getaway
Absolutley wonderful!! Loved the place from the minute I saw the lobby. Rooms were comfortable and clean, daily buffet breakfast was the perfect way to start the day and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The view looking over Kata beach is to die for the pool area is beautiful and the day spa is a dream come true. Located straight across the road from the beach and heaps of awesome restaurants nearby. Short walk to the night markets. Loved it and will stay again.
Good Hotel, Great location
We stayed at the Tropical Garden resort in September 05 after 3 nights in Bangkok - it was a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city!
The hotel is in a quiet location at the south of Kata Beach but is only a short (and very cheap) taxi ride away from the centre of Patong. Kata beach is just across the road, most bars close at around 10pm, except for the Reggae Bar which will serve you as long as you want to sit there!
The hotel was very quiet when we went as I think the season doesn't start until November. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, even allowing my husband to stay alone in the bar with a few Singha's and the remote controls to the TV until the early hours of the morning to watch a football match!
Our room was quite basic but had everything we needed and was clean.
The hotel will arrange tours for you; I would strongly recommend you don't go to Phuket Zoo unless you like to see animals being treated cruelly and living in horrendous conditions. I would however, recommend the Thai Boxing - I am usually hate boxing but this was one of the nest nights of my holiday.
The beach restaurants right opposite the hotel are excellent and very very cheap, we ate there for most meals. Don't go to the more formal restaurants as you will not get the true Thai cuisine and will pay ten times the price.
All in all, a good hotel with all the facilities in a quiet location.
Best location! Wonderful staff!
I stayed with my girlfriend in Feb this year for a week. We were so pleased with the hotel and couldn't believe that we had made such a good choice! The hotel is situated slightly up the hill at the very southern corner of Kata beach. This is DEFINITELY the most beautiful part of the beach to stay, the restaurants around this corner are so good and the place in general was rather quiet in the week. Besides the great location the hotel itself was very clean and comfortable, the staff were especially friendly and always up for conversation. The in room bar was very cheap! About 35 baht for a beer. 10 baht for a coke. The only slight downside of the resort would be the numerous stairs as it is on a hill, which would not be suitable for the elderly. The nightlfe in the are was quiet and nice, but for those wishing to spend a night on the town head to Patong for the night. We couldnt believe people stayed at Patong over Kate though, its a million times more quiet and scenic. Cheers!
Very nice hotel/people, but many stairs
We got an apartment on the 6th floor with a stunning view -Even from the shower, we could see the sea!! Price was very reasonable (make it inexpensive) due to low season -I was told only about 10% of the rooms were occupied. We had a package w/ one dinner, massage and breakfast. All of very good quality (though I was expecting something "cheap", nice surprise!). Kata beach is small -my favorite type- but cna be rough -children beware. Not many shops (but still enough annoying "tailors"), and some good places to eat within 100 mts (you must try Kata Mama Seafood right on the beach!). The only downside is that there lots of stairs to go up and down. Considering that you are most of the time outside I'd not hold it against the hotel, and given the greatdeal we got it was well worth it. BTW, the pictures on their website are accurate.
We stayed here for 2 nights in July '05 and the resort was wonderful! We had an amazing view of the beach and the pool. We would sit on our balcony and have a few drinks. The rooms are a decent size and very clean. One negative is that it is not directly on the beach; it is right across the street. But, that didn't matter because it rained one day and we took a tour the other day. The resort is located in Kata Beach and there's not much around. There's some restaurants, some tour companies, laundry places, internet cafes, and some shops, but I think it's one of the quieter beaches in Phuket. Be prepared to walk a lot of steps if you stay here; it is set in a hillside. The breakfast buffet was pretty good. Service was excellent. We requested 1 large bed, but found 2 small beds in our room. We called and they were literally up in minutes to take care of it. Another time, we called for a bottle opener; again, like 2 minutes later, we had a bottle opener at our door. Every time you leave the hotel, you drop off your key at the front desk. Every time we came back to pick it up, we didn't have to say a word, staff remembered who we were and what room we were staying in. The whole staff was very attentive and quick. We felt Kata Beach was a bit too quiet for us, so if not for that, we would definitely stay here again! If you're looking for a great resort in a quieter part of Phuket, I would recommend the Tropical Garden!
Idyllic, Cheap, Close to Beach
My family took two rooms here in mid June. We loved it! If you look at the pictures of the resort on their website, that is exactly what it looks like. The pool was great with a swim up bar with tropical drinks. The breakfast buffet was very good with excellent service. It is not directly on the beach, so it sustained virtually no Tsunami damage. The beach is about 2 minutes away across the street. The town of Kata Beach is very nice, and if there was any Tsunami damage, it has been repaired. The restaurants were nice and very cheap. There are many massage places; my daughters got a one hour massage for USD $5. There are some steps to be negotiated, so if you have problems with stairs, this resort is not for you. The air conditioning in the rooms worked great, but, like most hotels here (including the 5 star Marriott), the common areas are not air conditioned. The mini bar was so inexpensive that I could be a hero to the kids by giving them carte blanche to take whatever they wanted! In summary, this is a great 3-4 star place in a great location which is well priced (I paid USD $40/room/night).
