The cab driver arrived at 8:30 a.m., the hour we asked.
We wanted to go the artist's haven of Ubud, a community for writers and those of letters that started in the 1930s. The anthropologist Margaret Mead once took up residence in the area and since, it's been a destination for art galleries, temples, museums and street vendors.
The cab driver, in very broken English, also suggested rice fields and we asked to visit a renown lake in the mountains north of Ubud.
... on the speed boat alone, it left me wondering if the island itself would be as quiet and deserted as the boat ride over. In a way, I kind of hoped so!
