... cruise pegs we have on the front of the bikes’ roll bars to give us another position for our feet. The Air Hawk inflatable seats we have, also help prevent botrot over long distances.

We settled in a dive of a Hotel which is usually rented by the hour! Unfortunately Des dropped his motorbike bringing it around the back of the Hotel as the ground was very marshy. He’s OK, no damage done, well, maybe a little bit to his pride.

Catching the wave in La Barra!

The bridge that leads from Punta to La Barra is the perfect visual representation of the town - something that doesn't quite make sense. The bridge reflects the waves crashing on the nearby rocks where the river meets the ocean. Great environmental sculpture, but crossing the bridge, the roadway of which follows the profile of waves, is like riding a roller ...

Uruguayan Chivitos!

... with our backpacks) we selected the closest taxi and headed off towards the ferry terminal. Fifteen minutes later with 40 paseos clocked on the meter and downtown traffic as far as the eye could see, a bewildered Paco reaches for our trusty South American Lonely Planet. Sure enough our crafty little friend was taking us the long long long way to the terminal. Luckily for the taxi driver he realised the jig was up and deposited us at the ferry terminal before Paco could find ...

Punta del Este - huge let down

... skies. Our Punta dream was not playing out as expected. After deciding a run was out of the question (I couldn´t be bothered) we enjoyed a nice breakfast - great spread, fresh fruit, freshly baked muffins, OJ that had been squeezed with the peel still on (why would you do that?), and individual pots of heaven´s own spread, dulce de leche. All this washed down with nicely stewed coffee and a Yakult (that should get things moving...). The sun broke through whilst we were eating ...

... going to her parent`s house to meet her. She was going to be in town for a week and I realized I didn`t have any condoms. So as I am driving by a Target I decide to stop to get the much need provisions. While I am in there I buy the jumbo 36 pack of condoms (an entire week remember) and then I decide to buy a bottle of lotion since it`s winter and my skin tends to dry out and my bottle back home is almost empty. So, this girl has a nephew who is like 4 at ...

The One in Punta del Este

... filled with tables and lounge areas. The chic part: the staff uniforms were from Lacoste, and they had plush blankets available to drape over diners should they get cold while dining outside. The food also happened to be delicious! Right as we getting up to leave Lauren saw an acquaintance she had met last summer in the Hamptons. By acquaintence, I mean a Ralph Lauren modeling polo player named Nacho who has a beautiful, cute, young wife and two kids, but Lauren ...

Rio de la Plata meets the Atlantic Ocean

... we ended up taking the bus at 5 in the afternoon. Night comes at around 6. We arrived at the junction to Punta del Diablo at around 8, it was completely dark, and we had another 5km left to walk to the village. Piedad was a little afraid, and I was not too keen on walking in the cold and dark either, especially knowing that there are regular buses going there during the day. So we stayed in the bus and got to Chuy, the border town with Brazil.

Holidays in Punta del Este, Uruguay

... the boys contracted two Mercedes with drivers for the night. Our original plan was to go to a "house party" of a guy that one of the boys knew. We somehow got our directions switched up which lead to a wild goose chase around Punta, and we ended up pulling over on the side of the road to pop open a couple of bottles of champagne to celebrate midnight. It was probably a good thing we got lost though, because in South ...

Finally, some proper beaches!

Arrived in Punta del Este around 9pm, found a dodgy hostel, and met some top fellas - one insane 17 year old Canadian miner named Mark, who earns US$60 per hour exploring the arctic for diamonds, has drunk one beer in his life, and does crazy cliff jumping into water, from 100 ft high precipices. Apparently that hurts, funny that. Another nice bloke from the island of Guernsey (UK), Jim, who convinced me to attend a free Rolling Stones gig on ...
