I am an art forger

... glasses of wine!

Yvonne, Bert, Linda, Holly, Elizabeth, Christina and I all went to dinner together afterward at Café des Arts. The food was quite good, but I was really impressed by the beautiful plates and cutlery they had. Most of us chose to have the Menu de Terroir, including me. I had the salad starter, which was composed of some wild greens, a slice of cantaloupe, a slice of salty ham (sort of a prosciutto), and tomato slices with little balls of mozzarella on ...

Francois I was a show-off

... to the hotel a bit early so I could wash a few things in the sink (hope they're dry by tomorrow!), and then we met for dinner at 7:00. The restaurant was Restaurant Hôtel de la Treille; "treille" means trellis.

We started with squash soup. I took two bites and decided that it's still one of the most vile vegetables ever. The entree was a salad and a pastry of ground, spiced pork and apples. It tasted better than it sounds, and the pastry part was ...

A whole lotta nothin'.

... and Jan of my concurrent adventure and a welcome was extended for me to come and help out. It sounded like a nice time, so I figured why not? I shot them an email, I was invited, I shlepped out to Chinon (which is in the middle of nowhere) and here I am 15 kilometers away from Chinon. Thus, I am 15 kilometers from nowhere.
For the past three days I've earned my keep by--guess what?!--painting! Yes ...

Amazing Angers!!!!

... with hundreds of little wax demons. Next a woman and a fiddler practicing flying from a crane. When we were given a programme we went to various Happenings. A band giving a funeral service to L'escargots which they both cooked and served while they continued to play. The city was full of feathers and people dressed as either angels and demons or both. In the evening we went to a couple of performances which were totally ...

Even though the weather is starting to slowly go to hell we are taking the road to Chambord, one of the biggest castles of the area. A little background: it was the summer house of Francis the 1st so the expectations are quiet huge. We are all surprise by the size of the thing.... it is way too big for one person alone. The rooms are amazing and for the times quiet comfortable, but to top it all it features "the staircase" the one ...

How exiting will today be? We are going to the resting place of Leonardo de Vinci the "Clos de Luce". He was put there by the king of France and receives an annual income to make sure he would not need anything. The castle itself has nothing special in the way of architecture or stunning gardens but, the inside is full of the original furniture ...

Fog on the Loire

... some food for tomorrow; I'd forgotten it was Sunday as the weeks don't have the same pattern. That said the chiabatta with sausage and olives from the Boulangerie this morning was fabulous; they're becoming a fixture. It also remined me of just how expensive France is at a £1:e1 exchange rate. A simple USB extension cord on special offer was £5, the cheapest watch was £25 and there were no digital ones, the cheapest packet of crisps was £1. If there's a ...
