... return (or a very long return!) we found ourselves going down a stony, narrow, uneven pathway that had turned into a torrent! And thunder was rumbling round overhead. Thank goodness for sticks! We didn't die or even fall, but made rather slow and careful and very wet progress, and are now here in our hotel for 2 days!!! Our room is at the very top of the hotel - sloping walls and dormer windows and ...

... been so lucky - 9 days straight of perfect weather. But all that changes tomorrow according to predictions....heavy thunderstorms from about midday and as it is over 20 kms to Conques we had better be prepared with ponchos and gaiters!! And hope we don't slide down the hills. We have a rest day on Sunday, but next week is quite big, with 2 days of about 30 we will gird ourselves for that. This time we have a rest day after 6 days of walking, so all will be ...

We will be doing ups and downs, but the differences in altitude are more the range of 400 to 700 metres or less, rather than 1000 to 1300 m. It is another beautiful day, but tomorrow more doubtful and thunder storms predicted for Saturday and we are warned! Sunday is a ...

... 27 kms by Amr's gadget. Amr says he has just been speaking to a Canadian who had heard that that last bit was hard and came by the road - and arrived an hour earlier.... We will eat well tonight. I mean we will need lots of replacement, but I don't think this Camino is a weight losing experience. In Spain we both involuntarily lost a few kilos by the end, but the meals here are so wonderful, and always four courses - entree, main, cheese and dessert....what can we do but enjoy ...

Day 6 finished, and still going strong!

Amr says he thinks today was the best walk so far. It was again gorgeous countryside. The book said "moderate" today rather than easy, and I think it was because we had to descend right down a mountainside on rather uneven stony path. In fact I think we have just crossed the Aubrac mountains, having been high up there for the last few days. We left leisurely as it was only 17 kms, and turned out to be 18, but the shortest day so far. Left at 9 ...
