... next fuel to far we would have run out.

Coming round a corner we passed a couple on a fairly small bike fully loaded, this may have been the Belgium couple we had heard about from other travellers on the road.

Since we last travelled this road some sections have been improved with passing lanes over the passes, still a fantastic ride.

... folk and as we sit having a bite to eat and our coffee one of the locals stops for a chat. We get a sense of what the winters are like in these parts, they get 4 feet of snow in winter! We learn how to distinguish a brown bear from a grizzly; and where to stop up the road for good food and coffee. Purden Lake Resort camping ground has been recommended and so here we are. ... insulation . . . and no auxiliary heat in the summer!!

After leaving Jasper . . .

We were queued up for the train boarding . . . this turns out to be a much smaller train . . . an engine, baggage car, one tourist coach, one upgraded coach, and a domed observation car for the upgraded coach. Very few people opt for the upgrade . . . we didn't after reading several negative reviews on the cost and food quality.

... Bear Lake Provincial Park on the left--it was a very pretty lake. We have come to the area where they are clear cutting. Whole sections of trees in this area are dead due to the pine bark beetle. God is it ugly. It they get a drought up here, they could have a heck of a wild fire. We just passed several more lakes. Where the heck are all the moose??!! They also have some pretty white birch trees which you don't see much of anymore. A lot of trees in the US have ...
