Today was the final day of our tour, but sadly we could not hike due to pouring rain. Luckily we are at a nice hotel in an actual town (Charmonix) which is a good place for a day off. We've all been relaxing Ryan on his phone and I spending an enjoyable day reading on the kobo. Mom and dad have just been walking around. That ...

... our way to le Peuty, passing a heard of cows and our first goats. As the day was supposed to be a pleasant hike (14km, 2500ft) and feeling bad about missing the Fenetre d'Arpette the day before, we bumped into some fellow travellers who said they were heading to the col de Balme as well but rather were going via the Chalet de glacier. This was an hour from our current location, back up the mountain (and 45 minutes from our days original starting point!). Not to ...

Spent the night in Trient - not exactly the same quality of hotel or view from my window as before, but the constant cow bells were a nice change.. don't these things sleep? Today we make our way back to France over the Arete des Posettes, a whale backed ridge - supposed to be a gentler day of only 15 kilometers and 2500 ft elevation gain and loss. The high point will be the Col de Balme which is supposed to have a funky restaurant for lunch... -- ...

Woke up this morning to rain.... But it soon stopped. We were planning on doing the Fenetre d'Arpette, a dramatic hike over the pass with excellent views. After speaking to a local, they convinced us that due to the weather, the Arpette was a bad idea - visibility was poor and there were some areas that could be difficult especially if one did not have good maps and gps. This was the more difficult hike with an elevation gain ...

... headed down to the local bus stop, where I discovered that Lyn had indeed forgotten the waterproofs. Not a good start! No time to go back to get them as the bus was arriving. Just had to keep our fingers crossed. Ha, you can guess how that turned out.

We were soon in Chamonix and had a good look around the town. It’s your typical alpine town I guess, with pretty chalet type hotels and buildings with pretty window boxes outside and snow capped mountains in ...
