Like Hannibal and his elephants we took it upon ourselves to traverse the mighty Alps in our trusty Citroen. Driving over the Col du Glandon on our way to the village of Le Bourg D'Oisains we arrived just as the weekly markets were about to open.

A tasty breakfast of brioche and grande cafe at the local boulangerie and we were set for shopping and cycling. A visit to the local cycle shop to enquire about climbing the Alpe was in order as conditions were terrible, pouring rain ...

In the hope of getting out of the bad weather of Les Deux Alpes, we headed for our next stop near Lac De Paladru, unfortunately we didn't, if anything the weather was worse with almost constant rain for the 2days we stayed, we were still recovering from our bugs so we again spent most of our time in the van..

We took a couple of walks out in between the showers so again not much to report here....

At the bottom we went into the town of Bourg D'Oisan and went to the biggest of the three cycling shops to check things out. I picked up a nice pair of Assos bib shorts for about 2/3s of what we'd pay in Canada. I also got a new set of pedals for half the price of what we pay. ... owner was fantastic, and it was crawling with people my age. Perfect.

After being assigned our room, we were told that in a few hours they would have unlimited pasta and wine for us. We settled into our room, being greeted by a Brit sleeping above me and two other Americans traveling together. We all got along great, and would end up spending the next two days exploring Nice together.

We had a leisurely start to the day with a 8 am wake up call. Being in France I had croissants and pastries for breakfast which were so nice, ohh la la!! On the bus at 9.30 we started our drive to Grenoble. We drove past Nice and Cannes and told Robin we will make a movie about a tour director and his driver so we can go to the Cannes film festival.
