... over exploited coast, that from past experience has little to offer us, and take us inland.

Doing this has rewarded us with some of the best that Spain has to offer. Great mountain scenery, and some fantastic, old rural villages. There are also an amazing number of deserted farms with crumbling buildings. In the past these farms would have provided plenty of
local jobs, but today’s big farms mean less jobs, and nearly deserted rural towns. Unemployment here runs ...

After leaving the Piedmont region of Italy, and before heading back to Geneva for the airport, we made a quick two-day stop in the beautiful French alpine town of Chamonix. Arriving here on Thursday in the driving rain, we kept hoping for a break in the weather so that we could see the fabulous alps, including the Mt. Blanc, the highest peak in Europe.

We all crammed into ...

      Today is the
second last day of my holiday so I felt I should do a heavy hike as it is to be
my last one. I’m now in a hotel in Megeve, a fairly upmarket village
particularly in the ski season about 30 kms from Chamonix. It is also only an
hour’s drive from Geneva which makes the return of my rental car on Sunday
prior to joining my flight home that much easier.

      As all the
      local ...

... actually just a forest worker (with awesome leather hat!). He was very friendly but made it clear I needed to move on. Time to head to Munich I guess...

Munich was all about Oktoberfest and Oktoberfest was all about having a couple of quiet beers and eating some nutritious salad based meals.

We took it easy on the first day and only had a few steins (I think?) before hitting the rides for some adrenaline to sober up. The highlight of ...
