Good morning Vietnam

... glad when I got back to my hotel and warmed up with a hot bath and then indulged in some toblerone while watching a film in bed in front of my open log fire. The only problem was I don’t think my chimney had ever been swept so I had to keep getting up every 20 minutes to let some smoke out of the room! The next day was really wet so I just moved from café to café trying to keep warm before getting the sleeper train back to Hanoi.

Miss Loi's is pretty much the same. Her kid is all grown up now and working as a tour guide of the city. Oanh was here briefly but she had to go home for the weekend to help the parents out. She should be back today and she's got the week off so we should have time to hang. Speaking of Miss Loi, I finally breached the subject of ...

... Museum. Outside were fighter planes, tanks and other military hardware. Inside there were many photographs of the war and some quite horific.
To the credit of the Vietnamese they tried to make the theme of the museum of one to promote peace and antiwar, rather than knock the Americans although they did overlook some of the attrocities they committed against each other.
Both of us found the whole experience of this very moving.

Tomorrow we are on our way to Hong Kong.

... of the war of independence against the French and American Imperialism rather than the cold war and the domino effect of communism. There was almost not mention of the USSR or China at all! Still interesting though.

The next day we went to see the Viet Cong tunnels. I expected it to be no more than a few small tunnels in the Jungle but they had actually made a full blow attraction out of it including this brilliant 60's Vietnamese propaganda ...

... grabbing at us at once, saying " Lady what you want, you buy this shirt" - it was hilarious.

The food section had some very different foods; pippies, cone shells and frogs as well as fish, lobster, crabs and meat. The frogs totally grossed me out as they were headless, skinned but still jumping as the guy was ripping out their guts.

... awesome. He started a religion where you worship the coconut, and eat only coconuts and drink only coconut milk. Then he trained cats and mice to live together, claimed he was God, claimed he was Buddha, and tried to build a rocket to the moon on his Island. Then he died, of old age not rocket explosion. What a Hero! He had a few hundred devout followers.
Speaking of Heroes, I went to the Ho Chi Minh museum the other day. It was great, he was an amazing man. Traveling ...

I (a bit ****** by this stage!) then inexplicably had a kung-fu fight with him which must have looked strange to Rich and Andy sitting across the road.
