So I ended up doing Pompeii after Sorrento, just so I could have some down time after my hectic day in Rome. So I checked it out on my way back to Naples to catch the plane to Berlin. ... so bad for this couple as they were asking the bus driver how to buy tickets or when the next bus would come along. The driver made a small hand gesture but would not say anything else. He just stared at them for about 20 seconds, closed the door on them and then drove on! Yikes. I so much wanted to stand up and yell through the door what to do, but I thought I had better mind my own business. I hope they asked a store keeper or something and got it ...

... come to life) often in black and white stones (so you could see to enter and exit - they had these stones on the pavements too - a Roman version of cats-eyes). The houses were always built to the same pattern, with the dining room on the left, and a pretty courtyard at the back, and sleeping quarters usually on the right or upstairs if there was one. We also got to see an ancient kitchen. The dining room was an important room - meals went on a long time at night as they ...
