The Iya valley is sold in the guidebooks as undiscovered hidden Back to nature Japan. So I was ready for a rushing river and long hikes. And then there is the famous vine bridge crossing the Iya river, a feat of old timey engineering. But I should have remembered that in Japan , if there is something cool to see there is definitely going to be bus parking. So, I stayed in a little guesthouse ,Kel Na Sob, perched ...

On top of everything Japanese elderly Jay phoned his wife who came up the mountain in her car with more food, beer and sake. Sacred henro hut turned into party hut. And I found a Mukade (poisonous centipede) hovering above my backpack. Typical. I fell asleep early (surprise!) but woke up by heavy crying. Young henro guy was sobbing his ...

So I woke up at 3am today. Not too surprising since I pretty much passed out at the hotel as soon as i arrived yesterday and slept for 12hrs solid. As i refused to get up at 3am I laid in bed until after 5am and just pondered - my brain slowly regaining some juice after days of serious sleep deprivation. After a well-needed shower the time was food time. At 6.10am I buzzed down to the foyer to retrieve my breakfast tray. Banana, hard boiled egg, sweet bun with raisins, coffee ...
