No.16 Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz Melaka, Melaka State, Malaysia, 75000, 60-6-2812828
I like Kuala Lumpur. It's modern and open, with efficient transport. Clean and relatively quiet. A lot more green than I imagined. We were up early to have breakfast and pack, so we could whiz across to the Petronas Towers and try to queue for viewing tickets before they all went. Managed to get onto the end of the queue at 8:20, and snag 10 AM tickets. The view from the Sky Bridge was nice, but it was only halfway up the building, and you could only see half the skyline. Oh well. At least I ...

After a night in Singapore, we met the others in our tour group, very nice bunch, and had a 3 hour bus ride to Melaka on a comfy air conditioned bus.

We arrived at our hotel and had dinner before wandering through the night market in Chinatown. The next day we explored the city for a few hours visiting the Enduring Beauty Museum (where the people had disfigured themselves for their ...
Melaka, Melaka State, Malaysia zoeandgigs... Being in Malaysia, I wanted to see Asian things rather than European but I did the sightseeing thing for part of a day anyway. I took in the Stadhuys, a major landmark which was the official residence of the Dutch governors & their officers, Christ Church adjacent to the Stadhuys and A'Famosa a fortress built by the Portugese. I went to see St.Paul's Church where the St.Francis Xavier was temporarily buried before being taken back to Goa where he began ...
Melaka, Melaka State, Malaysia ericadempsey... correctly) predicted that we were "going down" went out next! So who won? I hear you ask. Did I mention the combination of cocktails, champagne, wine and beer? In short I haven't a clue who won! I think Helen had a great birthday. [I did - H.] Next day we were up early for our Malaysian Jungle trek on the duty free island of Lankgawi. I'm not saying it was tough but Jim (a retired American attorney) and I found two old Malays ...

Melaka, Melaka State, Malaysia johannajulien... in. David and I eat quite a lot of Indian food at home, but this was all new to us. The menu was full of crazy foods that we had never heard of. We ordered randomly, choosing names and asking the waiter what they meant. I ended up with a pancake filled with chicken curry and David with some Tandoori chicken. It tasted so good, a million times better than the Indian food we get at home. We loved the crazy flavours and the mix of Indian with ...
Melaka, Malaysia angela_louise... of my pack. Then it was on to Melacca, with its historic, colonial quarter and bustling Chinatown, in which I sat last night, drinking cold beer and watching the world go by. It's not the most exciting destination but it's a pleasant stop on the journey south. I took the opportunity to avail of the cheap Oriental medicine on offer in Melacca's Chinatown and so I'm now recovering from a massage. I ...
Melacca, Malaysia fishtails04... in red neon light by night. Very dutchy!). I was glad to see that the tourist machinery was not geared towards Westerners and enjoyed a tout-free life. Chinatown was also a great place, very well preserved and with a night market including live music which I listened to whilst eating some more food that I couldn't quite describe (not as adventurous as my fish-head curry in Singapore, though!).
Melaka, Malaysia tom_s... part of the city. There are Chinese temples everywhere, from simple small shrines (chapelles) to large, ornate houses, and everything is so beautiful! The Malaysians are all trop gentils (nice), last night, hier soir, dans un bar, the owner was celebrating his birthday, and offered us each a piece of enorme gateau/cake! There's a funny custom here: the flowery ...
