Got sunburned at the beach again

I finally mastered the weekender back packing. All my things are assigned to a designated pocket and I can close my eyes, reach into my bag and find whatever I want. I know, you're jealous, you don't need to tell me.

This weekend, I thought it was going to rain. For some reason I didn't bring my hat and I suffered for it. It was extremely hot and I think my scalp got burnt. Along with everything else, because I dunno the sunscreen ...

... with me. I spent the day in Mong Cai, I read til noon, went back to the Internet place where you'll find me wrapping up my time in Vietnam. While I am greatly looking forward to my time in China, should be there 4 months or so if all goes to plan (it never does), I'll miss Vietnam, the old girl's been good to me that you can be sure of. I'll miss the food, the people, the scenery (at least along the HCMH). I've been treated to no shortage of kindnesses, surprises and rewards. ...

Race day

A travel blog entry by woods.jan on Jun 06, 2013

At least is overcast so a little cooler, thank heavens. Most of the day spent getting organised for buses to pick us up. We had a police escort and a convoy of 18 buses, to take us to venue. Then we had the dotting ceremony, and then the races. Seemed no reason for the way the teams were split into 3 groups, but I think in hindsight, it was to give the local teams the best advantage. We got about $850 for participating. First prize was about $5000 or 45000 ...

Back my real world

... that has really gotten on my nerves is how nosy people are, and how close they get to me. I'll be standing in line to check out and more than once someone will pick up everything I've put on the check out area and look at what I am buying. And then they get so close that their bags or whatever else they are holding keep bumping against me. For some reason, that really bugs me, so I started doing experiments to see if anyone ...

Fireworks for the 4th

... thought for sure a car would drive by and knock a lit one over. Fortunately, that's just me freaking myself out for no reason. Every time a firework went off, though, a bunch of car alarms would go off. I don't really understand the point of car alarms here, they go off all the time and no one does anything about it. Just adds to all of the noise.... Happy 4th of July!
