Spent 2 days in Yangshuo, 1 night in Xingping, and 2 night in Guilin, before taking the train to Nanning; and then the sleeper train from Nanning to Hanoi. Great Hostel - Yangshuo 11 - with fantastic views forms it's roof. Swam in the Li River and visited the markets. Took the bus to Xingping - a smaller, less touristy village upstream on the Li River. Explored the farming village across the river by ferry. Guilin was big and bustling, but not half as bad as ...

We ended up booking a Chinese tour to the waterfall as there was conflicting information about tickets, bus and transfers. 240 Yaun for the day, entry and lunch. Early start 6:15 we left the hostel as meet time was 7am at the Phoenix hotel about a 30 min walk from our hostel. Breakfast was picked up on route at a global chain which is open 24jrs and does muffins with a hash brown and drink for 12-18yaun. Lea only ...

I also came to the conclusion that we were on the train with ...

... as people stood outside and used megaphones to attract people to their sales. The highstreet is just bursting with colour, lights and groups of girls shopping. After a few hours of wandering we popped into a Walmart which was an experience in itself. It was huge and had so many food demos including one lady dressed in a Kick-Ass style costume giving out lemonade. We queued to ...

... Then the couple were pointing and managed to explain we needed to fill in arrival cards, we rushed as quickly as possible as they kept our places inline. It was a little worringly reaching the desk as a Chinese official marched out of nowhere pushed a man out
of the line and started shouting at the man and his wife....I just kept my eyes forward as I was next....especially as I know we were trying to sneak our China Lonely Planet Guide into the country, ...
