... the window. No changing tables at the airport, so the rest of the crew made a wall so I could change her yucky diaper. This would be the second time our poor baby has been changed on some random hard floor . . . gotta do what you've gotta do! I was told by two people that our girl was the loudest on the plane. ... met a Chinese guy who spoke just enough English where we were able to get the message across of paying him once we were in the stadium and not in the parking lot. We settled on a 300 RMB per ticket, bought a few jerseys and happily made our way into the stadium.

On our approach, before actually getting into the place, we listened as the fans chanting grew, drums beating deepened, trash mounting higher the closer we got, and the air thickening with smog ...

It was 10 p.m. when we flew out of Auckland, but I didn't manage to sleep at all on the 12 hour flight to Guangzhou. I was given a couple of halved sleeping pills to help me cope, but didn't want to try them incase they were too strong and made me feel dopey after the flight.
China Southern airlines have had mixed reviews on internet sites, but I was nicely surprised when they matched the experiences ...

So Guanghzou. All in all a very positive and enlightening experience but it really does make me realise how lucky I am to be born in Australia.  Tips:1. If you are on a 72 hour visa free trip go to the special lane when arriving at Immigration, not the foreigner lane. 2. Get some cash (yuan) out before leaving customs as there are no ATM's once you get out. I had to go all the way back to the departure hall to find an ATM. Strange as taxis only take ...
