    A friend said you become a pilgrim the moment you walk out your door. We like the sound of that. So, instead of getting someone to give us a lift to the airport, we chose to walk a few blocks to catch a bus downtown, then connect with the LRT to Century Park, and then hop on the 747 bus service to the airport. This may be a good test to see if we've packed lightly enough!! We are purposeful in our decision to "Fly Edmonton First", and thankful for ...

    ... when you arent staying at a resort): facecloths (I didnt come across one the entire time I was away...), towels (depends on the hotel, you might be lucky if you get a towel..), swiss army knife - I didnt pack one of these and I found myself many times wishing I did, wet wipes and/or baby wipes - these are good for "showering" when you dont have time or water - to use in place of toilet paper when you end up getting sick - good to take on the airplane to ...

    ... so we decide to stop at A & W for some food and then we will go next door to fill with gas at the Petro-Canada. The burger hits the spot but getting gas offers a few more challenges. The fill spout on the car is on the passenger side. There is not one pump that has an opening for Heidi to be able to get in to fill from that side so she gives up and we watch for another opportunity on the service road. There is none so we continue on ...

    ... we did super well, apart from missing 76th street and having to double back, but that was all good practice for NOT ending up on the wrong side of the road when turning left. And we even made it back again over the river into town - woop woop! Met up with the rest of Team Shanks for lunch at The Green House - before we said "See ya" to AJ and wandered through the City Centre Mall. Apparently no match for the West Edmonton Mall, but we shall report back ...
