... sun had set and we got a cab to take us the 30 minutes to San Giovanni. The cost is about 60 Euros, but well worth the convenience. Our cab driver (and his fellow road warriors take to the roads as if on a battlefield—it’s all serious business that is guaranteed to raise the hairs on the back of your neck (or grow some if you don’t have any at the beginning of any trip).

This morning got off to a rocky start. We took a "shortcut" which looked extremely promising on the map, however, the dirt road gradually turned into a two track and then a sand path through a swamp which was infested with most of the world's mosquitoes. Who knew mosquitoes loved Italy too? Eventually we pushed the bikes through the soft sand for about a kilometer while fighting off and ingesting the mosquitoes ...

... and came across an old man collecting snails; he had about 2 gallons so far in a large plastic bag. He was very industrious and excited about the future of his snails. He also knew how we could get to our destination (hint: in the opposite direction). On the way to town, we found a cheese wonderland with aged cheeses, spiced cheeses and barrels of fresh bufala mozzarella. The later of which became our lunch. Things tend to work out. Thank you ...
