Hello everyone. Well it has been a few days since the last blog so i thought i would update you all on are progress. We arrived in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia's 3rd most populated city and started the hunt for a hotel. We had found one hotel which seemed quite cheap but when we got there, they wanted 10,000 roubles per night (about 200 pounds!!!). So we trekked back across the river to another hotel, which was meant to be rather rough but turned out to be really cool. Even the statue of Lenin in ...

Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia hello-ulliNizny Novgorod was not stop we planned in the beginning, but was recommended by people we met and Tim wanted to see the Volga of the Boatmen. It was a very nice town with lots of nice looking churches and a kremlin on top of the hill. A girl in Mcdonalds seemed surprised that tourists would come to Nizny Novgorod but its a nice spot. We arrived in the morning and booked the train to go that night (saves accomodation!) so had a day to wander.
Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia ozitagThree-day visit to Nizhny Novogorod for work. We visited the city center (according to Wikipedia the fourth largest city in Russia) in the evening. In the past the city served as a Russian fortress with a dominating Kremlin structure on the ...
Nizhny Novogorod, Russia tommnow... it was around 1am by now!) and me miming 'okay, but just a tiiiny bit' with my thumb and forefinger, she produced 6 gigantic freshly pickled cucumbers, half a loaf of bread and slices of some sort of devon, I kid you not, 3 centimeters thick - I can only imagine what Russians think when they come to Australia and are faced with devon sliced a millimeter thin. The lady also produced some soft of black tea which even without milk, in which state I usually hate it, was the ...
Suzdal, Russian Federation baggagewhores... and the room went from one extreme in temperature to the other. The scenery out the window was much the same as last night. I had not got bored of starring out the window though and did so for the first part of the day. I was surprised to find out a third of the worlds tree existed in Russia. The Mongolian traders were very noisy shouting banging doors and their favorite activity opening our door and starring at us. At first we thought they had just got the wrong door ...
Kirov, Russia ashermj... counted gives the lie to where everyone's minds are. I had expectations and the odd doubt about this rail journey, but I suppose that expectation is a traveller's burden, as much as the back pack. Train number 3 will have borne us 7622km over a mere five and a half days. At times it's been as much as 8 hours behind schedule, but now it's bang on schedule, Moscow awaits, and it's been worth every second.
West of the Urals, Russia robjstaples... is the air I breathe and the nourishment on which I thrive. There is no more sin in me, and I have ceased to commit it. I have a good conscience, and know that I am walking in God's ways and doing his will; I know that my whole life is fashioned in accordance with that will, whether I walk or stand, sit or lie down, am awake or asleep. Every thought I speak and every deed I do I think and do according to His will. Wheresoever I be, at home or abroad, it is according to His gracious will..."
