3-2 Kamikyo-machi Sasebo, Nagasaki, Kyushu-Okinawa, Japan, 857-0872, 0956-25-0001
Started out the day by heading down to the Toyoko Inn foyer to try their Japanese style breakfast. Rice balls, with your choice of bonito fish flakes on the outside, or with hunks of seaweed throughout the ball, with miso soup on the side, and coffee. Needless to say Veronica had the breakfast, while Charlotte, Angela and I sat and waited for her to finish. I still cant seem to desire rice coated in dried fish flakes, with a side of hot salty bean paste soup for breakfast. It just doesn't see...
Sasebo, Kyushu-Okinawa, Japan apatSpur of the moment decision to go on the Sasebo bus tour this morning, which includes a guided tour around the city on a coach, followed by a tour of the Naval museum, a cruise on the Pearl Queen around the 99 islands, a trip through the Sasebo aquarium and then up to an observatory before heading back to the station. So we leave the hotel at 9:15am, and powerwalk down to the Sasebo train station and bus terminal in an attempt to join the bus tour, which is scheduled to depart at 9:40am. We g...
Sasebo, Kyushu-Okinawa, Japan apatThere is very little on the agenda today. Sasebo has been good, because it has been a chance to relax and let our bodies unwind after the past week of consistant insanity in Kyoto, Hiroshima and Fukuoka. We headed across the road to the shops for a short stroll in the morning, simply to get the girls out of the house. Got a lot of supplies from a few of the the 100 yen ($1) shops, where everything in the store costs 105 yen (due to the 5% Japanese sales tax). Still, it is surprising what 105 ...
Sasebo, Kyushu-Okinawa, Japan apatAs I was getting ready to go to bed, something just didn't feel right. I just had a weird feeling that I was forgetting something, so for some reason I decided to check our travel itinerary on our trip plan on travel.yahoo.com. Remember that at this stage we have already booked and paid for this Hotel room for 4 nights, due to check out on Wednesday morning (3rd September). Yahoo travel blog says that we have 3 nights in Sasebo, and that we are due to check out of this hotel in 9 hours time (...
Sasebo, Kyushu-Okinawa, Japan apat... at hand as those buggers attack you especially in the night. I was going to add Top 3 of Dont's but all I can think of now is that Do not tip as it is not the custom here and may get you in awkward situation :). Tomorrow we are taking the plane to Sydney so new country with new adventures are ahead. As much as I love Japan it will be amazing to be able to read for example menus again and use actual words and not pointing all the time :) Japan, we will miss you!!!
Huis Ten Bosch, Japan schwate... car up to a peak that has a nice view of the city. There were some nice temples in the town. I particularly like the way they used the bamboo at this temple as a flower holder. There was also a river through the center of the town. There were lots of old stone bridges across it. This one is called Spectacle Bridge-get it?!
Nagasaki, Japan gypsymichelle... at mainly temples, there's not much to tell, the pictures says it all. Yesterday I sent a mail to Mr Yasumasa, thanking him for a great night, and inviting him out tonight for a meal to repay his kindness. To my great surprise, he called me and told me he would be delighted to have dinner with me, so were meeting up in the same area we went out at two nights ago. Watch this space! VideoBlog
Nagasaki, Japan asn75... the whale sushi was very much like veal, but had a more 'fishy' taste. During our second glass of Shochu he wanted to hear about my other experiences in Japan. When I told him about being rejected at places with hostesses he was very amused, and explained that often they didn't speak any English, and therefore couldn't cater for the customer as the should. He looked very happy as he asked me if I would like to visit a place like that, as if he was ...
Nagasaki, Japan asn75... in the days after the bomb, and one of the strongest an most lasting memories of the relief workers, were the victims desperate pleas for water. Again it has been an emotional day. But it has been funny to see, that Japanese school children, who are in general very polite and well behaved, can still forget themselves and fool around in a place as serious as the Atomic-Bomb museum.
