Today we finished our work placement at the potato farm, possibly the only place in Japan without internet access. We are both pretty happy to be sitting in a clean and comfortable hotel room.
We arrived in Hitachiota on the 13th of February. Shortly after arriving, Toshika, our host, came to pick us up at the station. She took us back to the farm shop where she prepared a wild boar curry and rice. The wild boar had just been trapped the previous ...

... fun. And drinking continued until 4:30am when half of us decided to go home. We stayed up chatting until the rest of them got home at 7am and then went to bed until 10am. We have a nice map ...

Bicyclists tool along on the paths that run alongside almost every major street. The side/residential streets are very quiet, and people are used to cyclists, so it’s pretty safe and ...

... that makes for great bike riding, and there’s even a fairly nice beach not far from where we’re staying. See the aerial shot of the complex.

Because this is such a new facility … and such a small town …, they’re not very geared towards foreign visitors. Last time we were at the KEK facility, which is outside of Tsukuba, a larger, modern city ~60 km from here. We’re ...
