... sun shines 24 hours a day on June 21. The morning was gorgeous with the sun just coming up to the east and with glaciers coming nearly down to the water. The scene included ountains and islands galore with the rather obvious globe facing from the west. It was akin to having a religious experience.

For the next six days, the coastal express will plow through the North Atlantic and Barents Sea, all while being above the Arctic ...
Bodø, North Norway, Norway sinilintuFriday was the day to begin our final push northwards and make a Scandinavian cruising comparison. Having embarked on an investigative walk the day before we were knew what to expect from the walk from our hotel to the Hurtigruten dock in Trondheim, although the fresh overnight snow had not been anticipated. Even though the morning was at our own leisurely pace we arrived at the dock, having plowed our bags through the snow, a little after 10am. During the warming trudge one could ...
Bodø, North Norway, Norway v1213I guess I must apologize once again for leaving so much time between entries. Things continue to be so busy here that I rarely have time to think about updating and before I know it all of my stories and experiences have piled up so I will have to write a short novel to tell you about all of them. Since I last wrote I have been on 3 major trips. The time Iæve spent here between the trips has not been ...
Bodø, North Norway, Norway jazzoboe... hoping to plan some travel in other parts of Europe during those last couple weeks before we go home. This past Sunday a lot of the international students, and some others, went on a hike up a mountain near here, from which there was a breathtaking view of the city and the ocean and islands surrounding it. It was a bit of a walk and some harder climbing than we expected to get to the top, but once there we sat and ate lunch and took pictures with friends. On the way down ...
Bodo, Norway anne-i-norge... was piled into three different taxies and driven to the youth hostile. After pizza and some relaxing time we went to the election places. (It was norway's local election day) We were givin a brief overview of how to vote and then we were invited to political party partys, which was very intresting. We were then invited to a couple political parties. They were pretty intresting as well. The next day we got to see ...
Bodø, Norway tinga... we learned about the history of the Indigenous people of Norway. I am not sure if it was because we were all exhausted or if our tour guide was just a little inept at giving tours, but I must say the whole experience was a little less than pleasant! Everybody wanted to throw themselves off a cliff by the time the lady finished because she would discuss every little detail of every little item in a very monotone and slow style that ...
Bodø, Norway korvette923... to Narvik in Norway, since we were so close to Norway. We decided that instead of driving all the way up North of Sweden we would go and explore Norway for a few days. As we got back on the road and started driving towards Narvik, we remembered that we hadn't checked out Lapporten, the famous mountains with a valley in the middle that you can even hike through. So we went back to the information centre and the lady told us to go back on the same road ...
Fauske, Norway samira_steve... north was also under attack. We spent thirty minutes at Saltstraumen. The water level between the two adjacent fjords differs as the tide changes and the passageway between them is so narrow that when the tide goes in or out, the flow of water through the channel is so strong and so swift it creates a maelstrom on the surface and healthy plant and animal life beneath the surface. The food supply is so rich in this area ...
