... really got what, but it all tasted good.

Our trip to Burgundy would not be complete without a stop in Nuit-St. George, where we again employed the "look for the sign of whoever is open" tactic and were not dissapointed. We got to try some excellent Pinot, C******nay, and even some Aligote (a white that they mix with Creme de Cassis for an aperitif) from some of the local producers.
Now its up to Champagne!
Beaune, Burgundy, France tommcatt... us we all agreed on just a quick stop at a nearby Abbey that was on the way back to Paris. Driving through the French countryside was beautiful but since it was another foggy day it was scary at times on those winding roads. We never actually found the Abbey but we did come across a Chateau. We didn't get out of the car since Angela's mom was nervous about returning the car on time. The ride back to Paris was pretty bleak and boring due to the rainy weather and the one ...
Beaune, Bourgogne, France t.rosileI only stayed for one night here because there was nothing in particular that I wanted to see, I just came to see what it was like. I caught the train back to Paris and had to use a different train station because Paris has several, all of which have trains going to certain places. My metro ticket should have expired but the other morning it had worked so I tried it again. After a couple of goes it was accepted, Yes! Machines can be foiled, and then 'stole' my way to Gare De ...
Dijon, Burgundy, France tonkin... so we rode in. Pastis and a (small) glass of rose for 2.20eu. Bit of a difference to Troyes where we were charged 8.10eu for a beer and a cold cafe au lait.
The site is fre but requires tokens for electricity (3eu for 1 hour) and water (3eu for 100 litres). This is pricey by French standards (the usual charge for 100ltrs of water - where not free - being no more than 1eu) but not too bad for such an attractive site.
One novelty spotted - a large BMW ...
Beaune, Burgundy, France pennipistle... kitchen and pharmacy, all run by nuns.

After touring the hospice, we did a little shopping (OK, I did a little shopping and Attila did a little waiting). In trying to pay for my purchase, I discovered a compatibilty probelm with the chip in my Visa. Apparently France hasbeen using the chip for quite some time and some of the readers are not compatible with our new chips in North America. Anyway, it ...
Beaune, Bourgogne, France dancer_alison... Ric********firmed that he was happy that the new towel would manage his girth!!!!

Whilst returning to our luxury accomodation Kev and Richard somehow took another wrong turn and ended up in the land of the giants, accompanying pictures we feel will tell the story, however lets just say there was a napelion complex going on.

Returning to the room we woke Rip van winkle, showered and went of for a traditional French meal at the Taj Mahal.
Dijon, Burgundy, France minipooper... just a short walking distance from the town, and very comfortable. We showered, ate, and took a late walk into the town.

Beaune is very attractive. We'd noticed impressive medieval ramparts on our drive through to the campsite, and now we also admired some austerely ornamental 18th century mansions, which reminded me at least of 'Marlinspike Hall' in Tintin. I also particularly liked a massy Gothic ...
Beaune, Bourgogne, France saracengill... place open) and I must say I didn't think I would ever be sitting down with Margaret Scott in a pizzeria. She was very good and threw herself fully into the ambience of the melted cheese and families eating supper. And at 10pm I can honestly say I was senseless with tiredness and only paid scant attention to her selected passages from The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. I look forward to the rerun tonight . Wednesday March 4th The Internet continues ...
Beaune, France kyria... interesting, again, no tastings were given, and my main intellectual reason for going was not fulfilled. I really wanted a simple explanation for how and why wines from the Burgundy are named, and as we joyously discovered, that requires tasting them. The Tourist Information office directed us to a place called Vin Sensation, which was the best recommendation they could have given. We enrolled in a wine tasting course, which basically translated to a: stupid, English ...
Beaune, France the_stamms... David instructed me to climb into the front seat as the other couple on the tour was already sitting in the back. I climbed in as directed and as I turned to introduce myself the woman in the backseat slowly lifted her sunglasses, perching them atop her head and slowly announced, "We know you." I looked at her and then at him and it hit me. It was Jill and Andrew whom I had met at the Riverside bar in Paris just two nights prior (I'm not making this up, really). There was ...
