Wine, caves and breakdowns

... third night here, however, Stuart decided he was too dirty and dived in the freezing water, only to discover it was full of leeches (none got him).

The next day, the two of us headed off on our 'Bushtucker winery Tour’ while Sarah went on a more energetic cycling tour. Our guide, Silvano, greeted us with infectious enthusiasm and introduced us to our group, 6 couples in their 50s and 60s who were friendly and up for a laugh. We visited our first winery, Church ...

The same game, but a new strategy

... in Perth around 4pm and we said cya to Mum who carried on back to Melbourne. Then Brent and I picked up a car and drove down to Mandurah for the night.
- Mandurah is about 70kms south of Perth with about 70K people in it. It's a very nice place which fills with holiday makers from Perth. We had some very nice Asian food for dinner and a couple of cocktails!
- The weather in Perth on this day ...

Happy New Year once more

... worked in this region all their lives. My second job is exercising racehorses for a farm just across the road from the brewery. I just take them out for gentle exercise (on a beautiful exercise track with a view of the ocean) whilst they are at Cape Falls Farm taking a break from racing and proper training. I have no horses there at present - my last horse 'Rockaday' having gone back to training last month - but I hope they will have some more ...

Anyone for Quokka

... this evening for 4, we realised that with the "Red Bull Air Race" in Perth in a couple of days, Freo had become pretty much booked up, as was Perth. Accomodation was going to be a bugger to find and after a number of phone calls we came away with 2 options, neither being particularly exciting propositions. We sat on a bench, I apologising to both my parents that after 1 day I had managed to leave them homeless ! Rachel on the phone seeing if there was anything else we could find. All of ...

This Ain't No Walk in the Park

... Western Australia, and I did pretty well for my second time on a board (first time was in Costa Rica). I never fully realized how tiring surfing is until that day. After about half an hour, I had to lie down on the beach for a fifteen minute rest, and from that point on I could only do fifteen minutes before another fifteen minute rest. The paddling and the constant battering by waves can take it out of you pretty quickly. The ...

Good wine, good beer and good food!

... us by a cheese factory, a chocolate factory and whatever you call somewhere they sell venison which all assisted in the absorption of alcohol! Our final stop was a brewery where the four of us sat out on a terrace at the back and sampled the five beers whilst soaking up some sun. We returned to the park where we had a little snack before joining Dave and Dyna in their campervan. A great day ended with good company, tasty cheese and a couple of bottles of locally produced wine!

Augusta

... Oceans converge at Cape Leeuwin, a spot marked by the historic Leeuwin Lighthouse which we visited. It was quite windy down here. The water was crystal clear and it was very picturesque. We met up with Saturday afternoon Shawn, Mellissa and their two kids whom we met whilst on the road. They were working at Bunbury and they were heading off to finish their trip around Australia. We made a fire and sat around and talked. Sunday saw us off to do a ...

The Chaos

... was so accurate you could shoot bullseyes easily every time. Neil also took us spearfishing and with the gidgie I shot 5 nice little black fish and jerrod shot a wopper 12 pounder with the speargun. That was a great day as we swam around 3 km and fed 6 foot stingrays some of the fish we caught. The bay we were at is called Hamelin Bay and It's lousy with stingrays, big black *******s with barbs the size of my forearm. They came right up to ...

Margaret River

... prohibited it, we had a little rock climbing tour to put us in awesome positions. I climbed the highest point of the rocks and enjoyed the stunning atmosphere. Below and around me the water crashed with noise into the rocks, spreeing up to my position, whirling the water around, while the wind tore at me and the sun shone on me at the same time. Beautiful sight of nature's forces! We drove on visited a cute little lighthouse close to Donsborough, had a ...
