Bistrita, Bistrita-Nasaud, Romania usneea... and amongst themselves.

We discuss the economics of the hostel. Roughly, she pulls in $1,000/mo in revenue. $600/mo pays her rental costs. She has another $100/mo in utilities. It is enough to pay her bills and in Romania, she is doing pretty well. The extra $ comes in from tours and she freelances as a limo driver for one of the big hotels. She had a 3 AM airport pickup later this evening. She works really hard.
Suceava, Romania will.traveller... to a rushing river. Lots of hikers and bikers, too. And, of course, there were dozens of stalls set up right there in the midst of all this beauuty waiting to sell you their souvenirs. And, of course, we bought some. The Red Lake (Lacu Rosu) was nice but not spectacular. We saw all of the dead tree stumps that jut out of the water. A landslide occured in 1838, flooding the valley, and ...
Corner of western Moldavia, Romania duedueduePiatra Neamt was a stop along the way to Sighisoara. Adrei gave us a quick tour which incuded walking through the beautiful square or park with a replica of the Little Mermaid, a gift from Queen Margrethe of Denmark, a statue of Stefan cel Mare, and colorful flower gardens. We walked up to St. John's Church with the bell tower. Andrei pointed out the niches outlined in colored ceramic bricks. The pattern continues in the Ethnographic Museum across the way.
Piatra Neamt, Romania dueduedueHi all! For the past three days we were taking it a bit easy. The temperature is rising again which is good. I hope Australia is getting warmer so that we don't get a shock when we come back. On Thursday we went and did a bit of shopping. I am ashamed to say but I bought another 2 pairs of shoes for myself (that's three up until now - compared to Roxy's one pair). Also when we went to visit Roxy's grandma from Vatra Dornei she gave us one of her old clocks as a ...
Piatra Neamt, Romania rvs... called Radauti where we ate (we had no lunch!!!). Have a look at the photo of the size of the pizzas!!!. The bill for 7 people was about $40 Australian which I thought was not too bad. After dinner we said bye to uncle and his family. Then we were on our way back to Piatra Neamt (Roxy's home town). It was a great road trip and we enjoyed every bit of it. You should all come for a holiday here. :-)
Sucevita, Romania rvs... country (most are Orthodox) and it has a lot of monasteries. Agapia and Varatec Monasteries looked fairly similar. They are basically in a rectangular shape (containing the residences for the nuns) and in the middle they have a church. The church is very dark on the inside with a lot of paintings. There are also various icons in there to which people kiss, pray and "cross" themselves. I was not allowed ...
Targu-Neamt, Romania rvs... in the afternoon and she was looking for some sandals as well. She came home around 1pm. Her hair did look great (see photos). After I "checked out" my beautiful wife we had lunch and it was time to get ready for the wedding. The ceremony started at 4pm (but in reality it was almost half an hour late). There were quite a few musical items. A brass band was playing ...
Piatra Neamt, Romania rvs... I waited for an hour and half until she went for a haircut. At that point I couldn't wait any more so I went for a walk in the town center and took photos of the various monuments, buildings and parks (see photos). After I finished my "touristy" stuff I sloooooowly walked back, sat outside the salon and waited. After I couldn't wait anymore, I walked inside and taaaaarrrrrrraaaaa Roxy only got her hair washed!!! No haircut no nothing... :-( Anyway ...
Piatra Neamt, Romania rvs... go off), and it's 7:47! I jumped off the train to find myself in Suceava. The train conductors had not woken me up, and I would have passed on to the next port of call. AND I think the train ended at the Black Sea. Uh oh. Luckily, I have years of experience of screwing up (losing things, getting lost, being late, etc), so I don't panic too much when these things happen. I swear as long as I come out of this alive (and ...
