Basel, Basel, Switzerland traceybelleThere is yet another fair in Basel right now, the Herbstmesse (Autumn Fair). It is huge! Carnival rides, food stalls, and booths selling trinkets are spread throughout the city. We went out at night to the Münsterplatz to see the action. Beforehand we visited Petersplatz to get raclette over potatoes and steaming Gluwein. Delicious! We also stopped in at the Barf ...
Basel, Basel, Switzerland travelingdivaWe got back in Basel late yesterday afternoon. We had lots of time to sort out our luggage and for mom and dad to repack for their journey today. Today it was time to say good-bye. They are driving back to Paris and flying home midday tomorrow. I had parked their rental car in an underground garage right by my apartment. We all walked down to the garage together, Lincoln included, with their assortment of suitcases and carry-ons. Once we managed to squeeze everything in ...
Basel, Basel, Switzerland travelingdiva... gave us a lot of information not on the signs and plaques next to the paintings. It took us about two hours to go through the collection with the guide as a companion. It was a really great exhibit; very informative and interesting. We learned a lot about Van Gogh during our time there and it was so cool to see how is talent progressed over time, along with his mental instability.

After the exhibit and mom ...

Basel, Basel, Switzerland gapostol... of vineyards. It was a beautiful walk, and Pete decided that although the grapes were not quite ripe we still ought to pick a couple to try. Jess and Millie's faces were great, as they spat the sour grapes out. It was only till a couple of minutes later when Millie said, "Mummy, you get my grape out my nose," that we realized Millie had been picking her own! Luckily we managed to get it out, but not the easiest of jobs, and at one point I thought we ...
Basel, Basel, Switzerland goughfamilyinpa... family friends. After a while we moved our way across town in search of some food; it was to be a very slow move due to the mass of people crowding every known thoroughfare. Not even Starbucks had seats free, but we eventually found a table at a little restaurant in small shopping complex. I had a typical grilled sausage, complete with singe-your-tastebuds-off mustard, and a hot chocolate - most welcome after the freezing weather!
