... didn't appear to be camper directional signs, just stacked rocks maybe 6' high or so.
Most of Iceland lives in Reykjavik and I got to town just in time for the evening rush hour. I think everything closes by about 6. Never figured out why the northern countries do this but now I think it might be because they don't want to be out and about after the sun goes down when it gets really cold. Since the sun goes down pretty early in the winter ...
... it and am standing on the very edge of the known world, as if ancient maps would show the waters surrounding the country as ´here be dragons´, as in ´we have no idea what lies further´. It is an odd sensation. The language itself sounds magical, and it is something that is soothing, and a language that I could listen to with my eyes closed right before I fall asleep. With a little work, I can understand basic words, and it is how I imagine old English sounded. I don´t mean ...
Reykjavik, Iceland gallopmonkey... considering you pay for 2.3 beers per spin (this is where Jon commented on writing a program to figure out the odds instead of any manual calculations). Meanwhile, as we were talking, Jon's glass of beer, that just happend to be sitting on the counter, explodes. Glass everywhere. The 3 of us are in complete shock, but the bartender is unfazed as he explains this happens once a week, and pours Jon another. I was watching ...
Reykjavík, Iceland dc314... sitting at the bar looking hilarious with mud masks on!! We floated around until we'd had enough, the water may be good for one's skin but I don't know of the same can be said about hair... mine feels like straw even after washing it twice. In the evening we cooked dinner for our host who contributed a bottle of wine and we had a nice quiet evening at home. Both Jo and I are feeling extremely tired and are having trouble adjusting to the time difference from New York! Can't get to sleep ...
Reykjavík, Iceland myates... his friends call him Gun for short. If he has kids then his son's last name will be Gunson or Son of Gun. Funny, but true. Gunnar got a kick out of this when I explained the pun to him. A LITTLE KNOWN FACT: Did you know that snipes are indeed a real bird? I never knew that until yesterday when our tour guide Henry [pronounced Öæþðskrd] pointed this out to me. According to Henry, snipes fly around and protect their territory by spitting cod liver oil on perpetrators ...
Reykjavík, Reykjavík, Iceland jon.price... Reykjavik about the cost of things here. I´m giving up the tent for a night tonight and I´m off to Stein´s place - a real bed and a roof will be a novelty! I have just completed all of my washing to ensure that I´m presentable to turn up at someone´s home and I´m quite excited about going there. I´m not sure what my last couple of days in Iceland will bring - maybe a trip to the blue lagoon with some French Canadian girls that I´ve kicked around with a ...
Reykjavík, Iceland susan_g... inside or outside. You could also buy fresh fish there and we bought a marinated minke whale steak and took it back to our hostel and cooked it. It's a deep red meat and the only cooking utensil was a small frypan so I panfried it, while Barbara made instant mashed potato and a green salad. The whale steak had a good strong meaty taste and was delicious. I am expecting that some of you are going to be appalled - 'how could you eat an endangered species, Everard' etc. Well, whale is ...
Reykjavík, Iceland everardt... courage to drive up to what looks like an abandoned warehouse, under the eyes of all the local children, knock on the door, and ask if there just happens to be an ancient shark-fishing vessel in there. As it happened, there was a whole museum of artefacts, from the first car in Iceland to shoes made out of fish-skin. Iceland does that to you a lot - you thought it was just an isolated petrol station on an empty road, but underneath it there is a whole shopping ...
