We arrived to Bangkok by sleeper train which we were apprehensive about with our 2nd class tickets, but was definitely well worth the value! The air con was almost too cold so we did have to wrap up warm, but did manage to get a train dinner and a nearly good nights sleep, except for the 5.20am wake up call when we still had over an hour til …

... 11pm at night to read and then sleep. I noticed that the smells of Bangkok, and I mean the not so great kinds, reminded me of another major city in Europe, Paris. As I wandered I started realizing there were many parallels between the two cities. Both have amazing food, although Paris is 10x more expensive and has French food and not Thai food. Both have a fast pace but also have places and parts where people slow down, sit on a patio and sip a coffee while people watching. ...

Feeling very satisfied with my 21 hours in Bangkok, I made my way to the Hua Lamphong Railway Station about an hour and half early. Walking into the building was like walking into another world! The manic energy was overwhelming, even for Bangkok! Not in a bad way, mind you, but it was a bit unexpected. The main hall was packed wall-to-wall with people. Along the edges of the room are a number of little stores on the lower level and restaurants on the upper level. ...

... freezing! That night we visited the night market via bamboo restaurant where we had yet more thai food :) The night market was ridiculous. It was vast and sold pretty much everything and anything. We almost got lost in between the stalls which were all overwhelming that we walked out with nothing but a couple of Christmas cards! Next was something we had both been looking forward too for a while as we had booked a day at the Elephant Nature Park. This park was different to the rest and ...

... out to sunbathe in the heat, the most noticeable action of the day was the number of salamanders within the park - I saw salamanders this is what we presume them to be, big lizards about 1m long would be Lehman's terms! There were some on land, some in the water - we followed one as he walked across the road and entered water on the other side. He had presumably walked in to someone else's patch as he was quickly greeted by another one from the water. As they licked each ...
