Flew to Chiang Mai with Nok Air - plane same size as the Rex planes at home. Checked in at hotel around 10am and explored the streets, markets and shops. Amazing place with lots happening !! Hotel is great and very luxurious compared to where I have been staying. Went to the gym and and then went to the night bazaar markets - unbelievable - it just …

17 November 2013.

This is the last day for celebrating Lantern Festival in Chiangmai. It's a new year for Thai's people. Many peoples came to Tha Phae Gate to fly a lantern as a symbol that the bad will gone away.
From Chiangmai International Airport straight to Tha Phae Gate. As I come to Chiangmai with a team from TV show so I have a …

We arrived at our 4 star hotel and were amazed. It was a high rise building with 24 floors. I had requested a mountain view and we were very happy with the room. It was a corner room so had massive windows overlooking the mountains. Two floors below was the outdoor L shaped pool with lots of sun loungers. The room itself was huge, you would …

We made it on our own

A travel blog entry by emma-sandra

Today we had a bit more of an adventure as we were independent travellers and had to get ourselves from our hotel in Bangkok to our hotel in Chiang Mai. In all fairness, it was a smooth process as we took a taxi to the airport, flew to Chiang Mai and then got a taxi to our hotel! No stress at all!

Our hotel is again very nice with a …

Centara Duangtawan Hotel. It's a nice hotel to stay. The location close to night bazaar. Just walking distance, but I have a bad experience on my last night that was I heard some people chat and laughing so loudly from my room in the middle of night. After I made a complain to the front desk by sudden that noise voices gone.

Historical Traveler Reviews Centara Duangtawan Hotel, Chiang Mai

    OK type of standard

    from

    Can improve ..

There is no coffee-making facility in this hotel. Getting hot water to brew my coffee is very troublesome. No water-sprayer in the bathroom, and toiletries supplied is not complete (no disposable razor, comb etc). Very limited tv channels.

    Good ..

Room is large with clean bed. No dressing table/mirror. Air-con is powerful. Hotel staff are friendly, helpful and courteous. The daily breadfast is good with good choices.

    The Dissapointing Duangtawan

    from

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff is not at all accommodating, the rooms are very worn and at breakfast they run out of basic neccessities and refuse to replace them. There are too many other hotels in the same vicinity to stay.

    Ok

    from

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in june. The hotel looks quite nice from the outside, as does the inside of the lobby. However, the rooms were very average. The room was reasonable clean though dirty marks on carpet and lampshades.

    Nice position, but...

    from

The position of the Central Duangtawan is very good: right in the Night Bazaar !!! This is the most positive point about this hotel... Except that, we were disappointed about the hotel's overall quality, even if we paid a very low price. Was sold as a 4-stars, but it would get a 2 star rating in Bangkok.

    Very good

    from

Found it a bit difficult to choose a hotel in Chiang Mai but eventually plumped for the Duangtawan (after getting blank faces from taxi drivers we found it's pronounced Doowong-Taa-Wahn, emphasise each syllable or they don't get it...:-).

In the midst of the Chiangmai Night Market

    from

The Duangtawan Hotel Chiangmai is a superior tourist class hotel located right next to the Lohkroh Night Market in downtown Chiangmai. If your room faces the north, you have an excellent view of the hills and the Doi Suthep Temple. My room had this fabulous view of Doi Suthep and the Night Market. The rates at this hotel are very reasonable - US$40 for a standard room with buffet breakfast. Walk out of the hotel, turn right and you will be at the Night Market - a hub of activity with stalls selling traditional northern Thai handicraft, fake goods and souvenirs. There are many travel agents just around the corner of the hotel in the Night Market where you can book day trips to the Golden Triangle, elephant safri tours and hilltribe tours. The hotel has an L-shaped swimming pool where you can take a dip and relax after the day's outing. The hotel's website is:

    Great Thai massage

    from

We switched to this hotel after we discovered the guest house we had reserved had no in-room TV and was only $10 less. The receptionist at the Duangtawan was especially friendly and helpful. My husband went twice for a massage and felt the masseur had done an excellent job. The hotel's location one block from Starbucks and next to the Night Bazaar is very convenient. We would probably stay there half of our visit and spend the other half at a more Thai-style guest house surrounded by greenery in a quiet neighborhood.

    Nothing wrong with this hotel

    from

My travel agent recommended this hotel when my first preference was unavailable. The Duangtawan Hotel is clearly a tourist hotel and meant to impress with lots of marble and large lobby, although the front desk was oddly on the 2nd floor. It is not a boutique hotel with individual character. Having said that, the hotel does appear to be relatively new (I stayed in Feb 2005). My room was in fine shape, not worn out at all. The pool was gorgeous with lots of lounging options. The breakfast buffet was very extensive, and included Asian dishes (stir fry, rice porridge, etc.), continental breakfast items (pastries, tons of fruit), salad bar from the Royal Garden Project, juices, and even made-to-order omellete chef. I found the staff to be professional. Location next to the Night Bazaar was perfect. I would definitely stay again on my return visit.

    Great Location

    from

We came from a "hut" out in the country to this hotel and it seemed liked heaven! I loved the location...so much to walk to. My only complaints are that the carpet in our room was quite dirty, as was the hallway carpet, and the shower was moldy. The beds were great! We girls got our hair washed and blow-dryed for $5.00 in the salon...a nice treat. I would stay again...a great place for the price!

    Nice, but impersonal

    from

We chose the Duangtawan after an extensive review personally of many hotels in the Night Bazaar area of Chiang Mai. The hotels for the most part, 4 star and under, are fairly worn. This one, although apparently near new, is no different. The lobby is massive and very impersonal with bad lighting. The elevators are always busy and if you are on a higher floor it is difficult to get where you are going efficiently. The breakfast buffet is marginal and again, impersonal. The maid was nice though! The rooms are fairly worn for the age of the hotel, with industrial type toilets, bad caulking in the shower and mismatched shower doors. The view is nice, the pool is beautiful and the fitness room is archaic. I would likely stay somewhere else next time, although the price was reasonable and there was availability.
